Different data exist regarding long-term visual prognosis associated with suprasellar meningiomas. The aim of this study was to determine the outcome of suprasellar meningiomas with respect to short and long-term visual outcomes. ⋯ Visual outcome is better in patients with preoperative vision > 1 mfc and early post-operative vision significantly correlates with long term visual outcome.

Posttraumatic infarction in the basal ganglia after a minor head injury in a child: case report.
We present a case of posttraumatic infarction in the territory supplied by the lateral lenticulostriate artery after a minor head injury in a child. A 2.5-year-old child was admited to our emergency room after a head-on fall from a height of 50cm. He developed a right hemiparesis and he could not speak properly for about half an hour. ⋯ A follow-up CT obtained two days later revealed a hypodense lesion at the left basal ganglia and a diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging disclosed an area of infarction. The patient was conservatively medicated and full recovery was made in three weeks. Hospital admission, careful observation and early diffusion-weighted MR examination should be considered for patients with persistent neurological deficits.

Optimal surgical pathway for lateral ventricle tumors is still controversial. The purpose of this study is to discuss the factors that affected the preference of the surgical techniques for removing lateral ventricle tumors. ⋯ Lateral ventricle tumors can be treated best by careful selection of the surgical approach according to localization of the tumor within the ventricle, the expansion side of the tumor, the size of the tumor, the origin of the vascular feeding branches, the venous drainage, and the relationship of the structures, and the histopathological features.

Ventriculo-peritoneal shunt, one of the most common surgical procedures performed by neurosurgeons all over the world has been associated with a number of complications; the most common being infection and mechanical failure. Most of these complications tend to increase morbidity with prolonged hospital stay and cost. ⋯ The authors describe a case of basal ganglionic tumor in a 15-year-old child who underwent emergency ventriculo-peritoneal shunt placement for associated hydrocephalus and deteriorating consciousness. She had a sudden deterioration following the procedure and imaging revealed massive intratumoral hemorrhage.

Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH) or Forestier's disease is a common disorder of unknown etiology that is characterized by ossification of the anterior longitudinal ligament of the spine and various extra-spinal ligaments. We present the case of a 54-year-old woman with progressive dysphagia due to DISH of the cervical spine, which is a relatively rare pathology in neurosurgical practice. ⋯ Surgical removal of the large osteophytes and a shortterm nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug regimen led to the resolution of dysphagia. The clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and treatment of this unusual condition are discussed.
