To explore the causes of scalp wound infection, pathogen distribution, characteristics of antimicrobial susceptibility and therapeutic measures following craniocerebral trauma caused by the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake. MATERIAL and ⋯ The rate of scalp wound infections following earthquake-induced craniocerebral trauma, which was dominated by Grampositive Staphylococcus aureus infection, has been markedly elevated in recent years. Early debridement and suturing, nutritional support and application of sensitive antibiotics can augment the therapeutic effect.

Intramedullary tumors affecting the entire cord from the cervicomedullary junction to the conus are termed "holocord tumors". Ependymomas are the most frequent intramedullary tumor in adults. Holocord ependymoma is an exceedingly rare condition. ⋯ Besides, cysts are common feature of all spinal ependymomas. There was a solid mass not accompanied by a cyst a any level in our patient's tumor. To the authors' best knowledge, a pure solid mass not accompanied by a cyst has not been previously reported with holocord ependymoma cases.

We describe herein a patient with primary intracerebral malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) to demonstrate this very rare central nervous system tumor. A 42-year-old male was admitted to our institute with the complaints of headache and speech impairment. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a tumor consistent with meningioma and we decided the surgery. ⋯ Reoperation was performed and the tumor was again removed gross totally. However, the patient demonstrated a rapidly progressive course leading to death within the first year after the surgery. Two significant points of this case of primary central nervous system MFH are the rarity of its occurrence and its mimicking a meningioma.

This study aimed to investigate the clinicoradiological features in patients with traumatic peritentorial subdural hematomas (SDHs). ⋯ The patients with traumatic peritentorial SDHs were predominantly male and relatively elderly, and had a high incidence of coagulopathy, associated intracranial lesions (especially falx SDHs), a high rate of impact in the occipital or frontal regions, and a low incidence of skull fractures. The factors that were correlated with outcome in patients receiving conservative therapy were the presence of coagulopathy and the presence of convexity SDH.

To explore the surgical effect of cerebellar tonsillectomy with suboccipital decompression and duraplasty by small surgical incision (3~4cm around the foramina magnum) on treating Chiari I Malformation (CM I) patients. ⋯ Cerebellar tonsillectomy with suboccipital decompression and duraplasty can provide long-time cure for most CM I cases. Early diagnosis and surgery is necessary to improve the surgical effect. A 3~4cm incision around foramen magnum is enough for these operations and may be conducive to reduce postoperative complications.
