Despite the success of folic acid fortification programs, neural tube defects (NTDs) such as spina bifida, encephalocele, and anencephaly remain among the most substantial causes of childhood morbidity and mortality worldwide. Although these are complicated conditions that require an interdisciplinary approach to care, definitive treatment of survivable NTDs is often neurosurgical. ⋯ Despite the success of folic acid fortification programs, greater global public health efforts should be placed on improving access to neurosurgical care in low and middle-income nations through sustainable initiatives such as surgeon exchange programs and the establishment of neurosurgery residency training programs.

We used dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) technology and its perfusion parameters to diagnose central glioma high-grade glioma (HGG), primary central nervous system glioma low-grade glioma (LGG), brain metastases, and meningioma and make differential diagnoses. ⋯ DCE-MRI can distinguish HGG and LGG more accurately, of which t-Ktrans value has higher specificity and sensitivity, although the difference of t-Ve value between PCNSL and HGG is statistically significant but the sensitivity and specificity are not high; the p-Ktrans value and p-Kep value of metastatic tumors are lower than HGG and have higher specificity, but meningiomas and HGG and PCNSL, meningiomas and metastases are not accurate identification.

To find out the bioelectric signal discriminative features of different acupoints at the same time and at the same acupoint, and then analyze these differences to determine the type of acupuncture points and assist in judging the patient's condition, a hardware system was designed that can collect subcutaneous potential information of acupoints. Then, the changes of ultrasonic images were analyzed after acupuncture at Zu San Li, as well as the influence of acupuncture at Zu San Li on vagal nerve activity. The hardware system is composed of 4 parts: an analog circuit module, a digital circuit module, a power module, and a host personal computer. ⋯ After acupuncture at Zu San Li, the vagal activity was increased and the balance ratio of sympathetic vagal activity was reduced. Part of the potential frequency of the acupoint is extremely active, which is the response potential of the subcutaneous induction tissue at the acupoint, which proved the feasibility of collecting electric signals around the acupoints in this kind of hardware system. It is of great significance to diagnose the disease according to the characteristics of acupoint electric signals.

The neurointerventional field is moving towards transradial access (TRA). Among the favorable indications for TRA is for posterior circulation/vertebrobasilar interventions. For some neurointerventions, a triaxial system (guide catheter, distal access catheter [DAC], and microcatheter) is typically used for optimal support. We describe application of a new technique in which we forgo use of the guide catheter, using the DAC only for coaxial access via the radial approach and its potential advantages. ⋯ TRA with a distal access catheter provides support equivalent to a triaxial system with a coaxial construct in the posterior circulation. This has the advantage of using a smaller system in the radial and vertebrobasilar artery without losing stability. This technique can be used effectively and safely for a variety of posterior circulation neuroendovascular interventions.
