Mentalizing is an essential function of our social lives. Impairment of mentalizing due to meningiomas has not received attention because most patients return to their social lives after surgical treatment. We investigated the influence of meningiomas and their surgical resection on mentalizing. ⋯ Mentalizing was impaired by meningiomas arising from the anterior skull base, but it can improve after surgical resection of the tumors.

In sub-Saharan Africa, the estimated prevalence of scoliosis ranges from 3.3% to 5.5%. The management of these deformities is restricted due to lack of infrastructure and access to deformity spine surgeons. Utilizing surgical camps has been demonstrated to be efficient in transferring skills to low-resource environments; however, this has not been documented concerning deformity surgery. ⋯ To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time an African scoliosis camp has been established. The study highlights the difficulty of conducting such a course and illustrates the feasibility of executing these complex surgeries in a resource-limited environment.

The loss of in-person interviews during the COVID-19 pandemic warrants an investigation into what information is provided to applicants through neurosurgery residency program websites (NRPWs). This study examines NRPWs across the United States and Canada to determine what details are provided to applicants through their respective websites. ⋯ This study investigates NRPW content after the COVID-19 pandemic. We report broad variability in content provided by various neurosurgical training programs. Higher-ranked neurosurgery programs are more likely to include fellowship information, operating room virtual reality experience, and faculty research than lower-ranked programs.

Meningiomas are one of the most common benign primary brain tumors; however, there is a paucity of literature on potential preventability. This comprehensive review aimed to explore the existing evidence for the potential risk factors that may contribute to meningioma development and to discuss early prevention strategies. ⋯ To our knowledge, this is the first study that offers a perspective on prevention of meningiomas. A causal relationship of risk factors in developing meningiomas cannot be directly established with the current evidence. We are aware of the limitations of the hypothesis, but we believe that this study will raise more awareness and our findings could potentially be endorsed by organizations promoting health across the globe. Further prospective and retrospective studies will shed more light on this topic and help establish a definitive relationship.

Traumatic middle meningeal artery (MMA)-middle meningeal vein (MMV) fistula (MMA-MMV fistula) and MMA pseudoaneurysm are the 2 main MMA-related vascular diseases occurring after blunt head trauma. These are rare but known causes of delayed intracranial hemorrhage. This study investigated predictors that may aid in the diagnosis of these diseases. ⋯ Temporal/parietal bone fracture in patients with blunt head trauma is a likely predictor of MMA-related vascular diseases. When initial head computed tomography reveals this pathology, we recommend careful imaging follow-up (e.g., DSA) and treatment as needed, while considering the possibility of MMA-related vascular diseases.
