Oblique lateral interbody fusion (OLIF) surgery is a minimally invasive spinal surgery technique that has become increasingly popular in recent years. The primary objective of the current study was to design a minimally invasive expandable fusion device that can reduce iatrogenic nerve damage and minimize endplate damage during OLIF surgery, while restoring intervertebral height and alignment. The second objective was to use finite element analysis to evaluate the biomechanical stability of the newly designed expandable fusion device after implantation into the intervertebral space. ⋯ The BEC implanted models had higher stiffness, and more proper stress distribution on the posterior fixation was comparable to that of the Conv-OLIF models. However, the endplate stress peaks and cage stress peaks of the BEC models were slightly higher than those of the Conv-OLIF models, though still within a clinically acceptable range. Taking into account both biomechanical and clinical perspectives, BEC-assisted unilateral pedicle screw fixation meet clinical demand and may serve as a viable alternative to Conv-OLIF fusion.

Severalreports have been published on the history of pioneering women pursuing neurosurgery. Women in Turkey started receiving neurosurgery specialty training later than men, as was the case in other parts of the world. However, compared to other countries, Turkey saw the admission of women in neurosurgery sooner, with Aysima Altınok who obtained her specialization in 1959. Nevertheless, Yıldız Yalçınlar, one of the pioneers, remains relatively unknown. ⋯ In Turkey, the number of women practicing as neurosurgeons has increased consistently. Despite this upward trend, the representation of women in the field of neurosurgery remains disproportionately low. We hope that Yıldız Yalçınlar's achievements, which began in the early 60s, will encourage women today and contribute to the continuing growth of neurosurgery.

A 65-year-old woman presented with a 2-month progressive history of forgetfulness, headaches, and decline in mobility. Imaging showed a large, enhancing pineal region tumor with triventricular hydrocephalus. She underwent an endoscopic third ventriculostomy and biopsy after appropriate consent was gained. ⋯ We speculate that these are perforating arteries from the posterior communicating artery (premamillary artery) or a branch from the first part of the posterior cerebral artery P1 (thalamoperforators). Other options include perforators from the ophthalmic segment of the internal carotid artery, the communicating segment of the internal carotid artery, the superior hypophyseal artery, or a branch of the medial posterior choroidal arteries. We look at each in turn.

A 39-year-old male pedestrian-hit-by-car was transferred to our institution with atlantooccipital dislocation (AOD) on outside computed tomography (CT) imaging. On arrival he had a rigid cervical collar in place. Given the reported AOD, we placed the patient flat, removed the cervical collar, and supported the head in neutral alignment with sandbags. ⋯ Subsequently, after the outside images were uploaded, we were able to compare his cervical spine CT images before and after removing his cervical collar. On comparison, we noted a substantial reduction in AOD after collar removal. We hope this serves as a reminder of this key step in managing a rare but deadly clinical entity and a small demonstration of the efficacy of this intervention.

This study aims to assess the impact of the workshops organized during Neuroendocon 23 on the perspective and confidence of neurosurgeons toward endoscopy in a lower-middle income country. ⋯ Cranial and spinal endoscopy cadaveric workshops could be the first step in stimulating the interest of neurosurgeons in endoscopy.
