We present a rare case of chronic hydrocephalus and tethered cord syndrome in a high-functioning asymptomatic college student. Her presentation was triggered by a fall, at which time, she developed subacute symptoms consistent with progressive increased intracranial pressure. ⋯ This case highlights the innocuous onset of 2 congenital diagnoses in adulthood seemingly associated with a mild traumatic injury. Furthermore, it shows classic imaging findings associated with chronic increased intracranial pressure, aqueductal stenosis, and tethered cord syndrome (preoperative and postoperative appearances), which serve an important educational role given the relate rarity of these coexisting diseases in adults.

Intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) is the most common type of hemorrhage in moyamoya disease (MMD) with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), but the risk factors affecting the short-term prognosis of MMD with IVH in adults are still unclear. ⋯ Among patients with MMD with IVH, the lower GCS score and higher Graeb score are independent risk factors for poor prognosis, whereas in patients with MMD with IVH, surgery treatment acts as a protective factor.

Intracranial aneurysms (IAs) are dilatations of the cerebral arteries, whose treatment is commonly based on the implant of a metallic clip on the aneurysm neck. Despite the dissection and understanding of the surgical anatomy of the IA when often only parts of it are visible, the choice of the ideal clip to be used is one of the surgical difficulties. Although current imaging tests guarantee IA visualization, currently there is no planning method that allows for a real three-dimensional (3D) visualization for optimal choice of clip prior to surgery. The aim of this study is to evaluate whether IA biomodels generated by additive manufacturing methods are useful for surgical clip selection in microsurgeries for IA. ⋯ 3D biomodels generated by additive manufacturing methods were effective for surgical clip selection in microsurgeries for IA, reducing surgical time, increasing cerebral angioarchitecture understanding, and providing more safety in this type of surgery.

In this paper, we analyze the experience and propose a method of incision and stitching of the postoperative scalp wound without shaving hair in elective neurosurgical interventions. ⋯ Our results also show that the use of a nonresorbable intradermal suture combined with hair preservation does not affect the risk of infection.

Many factors influence an author's choice for journal submission, including journal impact factor and publication speed. These and other bibliometric data points have not been assessed in journals dedicated to neurosurgery. ⋯ Publication speeds vary widely among neurosurgery journals and appear to be associated with the journal impact factor. Time to publication increased over the study period.
