Although the use of different types of valves has been extensively studied in shunt surgery for communicating hydrocephalus (cHC), a consensus about the valve type remains absent. The objective of this study is to evaluate our results with the primary placement of nonprogrammable valves (NPVs) for this indication. ⋯ Overall, our results in terms of shunt revisions as well as clinical and radiologic evolution are comparable to the literature for NPV. vv-3DSAS can be used and could be useful to detect small changes in VV in patients with cHC.

Gliosarcoma (GSM) is a variant of glioblastoma, 1 of the most common and aggressive primary brain tumors in adults. Our study seeks to analyze a large cohort of patients with GSM in the National Cancer Database (NCDB) to elucidate clinical predictors of overall survival (OS). ⋯ Despite maximal multimodal treatment, GSMs have poor median OS. NCDB data suggest age, comorbidities, extent of resection, and adjuvant treatment each minimally delays poor outcomes.

Facet joint cysts (FJCs) are a cause of radiculopathy, back pain, cauda equina syndrome, and/or claudication. They mostly affect the lumbar spine in the elderly, prevailing in women, and are connected to spinal degeneration and instability. We aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of open surgical decompression and cyst excision without a subsequent fusion. ⋯ Simple FJC extirpation is a safe and effective method for resolving radicular symptoms, with excellent long-term outcomes. It does not lead to the development of clinically significant spondylolisthesis in the operated segment; thus, no supplementary fusion with instrumented stabilization is required.

Cervical artery dissection (CeAD) causing a large vessel occlusion (LVO) stroke might represent a procedural challenge for mechanical thrombectomy (MT) impacting on its effects. The aim of the present study was to analyze safety, reperfusion rates, and clinical outcome of patients with CeAD treated by MT and compare these results with those obtained in non-CeAD patients. ⋯ Although CeAD represents a procedural challenge, MT constitutes a safe and effective treatment for patients with CeAD with LVO stroke.

Since its proposal, the Global Alignment and Proportion (GAP) score has been the topic of several external validation studies, which have yielded conflicting results. Given the lack of consensus regarding this prognostic tool, the authors aim to assess the accuracy of GAP scores for predicting mechanical complications following adult spinal deformity correction surgery. ⋯ GAP scores may have a minimal-to-moderate predictive capability for mechanical complications associated with adult spinal deformity correction.
