While Kambin's Triangle has become an ever more important anatomic window given its proximity to the exiting nerve root, there have been limited studies examining the effect of disease on the corridor. Our goal was to better understand how pathology can affect Kambin's Triangle, thereby altering the laterality of approach for percutaneous lumbar interbody fusion (percLIF). ⋯ These results illustrate the feasibility of preoperatively segmenting lumbosacral nerves and measuring Kambin's Triangle to help guide surgical planning and determine the ideal laterality of approach for percLIF.

There is a growing trend among patients and their families to seek medical information online. Among the world's most popular websites, YouTube is ranked second. Our aim was to assess the reliability and quality of YouTube videos on spina bifida. ⋯ Based on the results of this study, patients and their families will generally encounter low-quality educational content on YouTube when searching for information about spina bifida. Since videos on spina bifida are insufficient, we recommend to universities, hospitals, and academic societies publish reliable video education content to support and optimize patient education, in line with approved tools such as DISCERN.

The fluid percussion injury (FPI) model is a surgical method for mimicking traumatic brain injury (TBI) models as it automatically and accurately measures peak impact pressure. Nevertheless, its elevated costs have led numerous researchers to develop more inexpensive alternative methods. Therefore, we used a copy of the classic FPI device to develop a novel method to evaluate the pressure pulse and determine injury severity with even more precision during the surgical procedure to induce an injury. ⋯ The method developed to evaluate pressure pulse in an FPI model proved capable of precisely determining different degrees of injury.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is responsible for approximately 18,000 trauma cases each year in the United States, often resulting in debilitating motor and autonomic disability. Neuromodulation is a rapidly growing field of interest in the neurosurgical field and has additionally shown promise in the treatment of SCI. This review characterizes all clinical trials to date studying neuromodulation for the treatment of SCI. ⋯ Neuromodulation in SCI studies currently assess transcutaneous spinal stimulation, epidural electrical stimulation, and tibial nerve stimulation. There is currently 1 completed study suggesting feasibility of home neuromodulation techniques without adverse events. The results of trials that will be completed in the next few years will help dictate the potential of neuromodulation as a treatment for SCI.

Research is pivotal to neurosurgical training and practice. The objectives of this study were to quantify neurosurgical research output by authors from low-income countries (LICs), using author affiliation as a proxy, and to understand the patterns of collaboration between LIC authors and their international partners. ⋯ The positioning of LIC researchers as middle author contributors revealed significant authorship disparities in international neurosurgical research collaborations. The average H-indices of authors from middle-or-high-income countries were more than 3 times greater than those of LIC authors. Quantifying this issue allows neurosurgical organizations to understand the current landscape and to set concrete goals for research capacity building in LICs.
