To compare functional and seizure outcomes in children with vascular and dysplastic etiologies of cerebral palsy and medically intractable epilepsy following functional hemispherotomy or anatomic hemispherectomy. ⋯ Quantitative functional and seizure outcomes following functional hemispherotomy or anatomic hemispherectomy did not differ significantly between vascular and dysplastic etiologies of cerebral palsy and medically intractable epilepsy in this study. Hemispheric surgery resulted in minor functional declines from baseline following comprehensive multidisciplinary therapy.

We performed magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to analyze the distance between the left and right internal carotid arteries (ICD) around pituitary tumors for transsphenoidal surgery (TSS). ⋯ Among the distance parameters, ICD-B is the longest, and was approximately twice the width of the TS-C. The shape of the sella is an ellipse that is widest in the lateral dimension in TSS. A horizontal based dural incision may be more rational than a conventional X-shaped dural incision.

Tumor-related trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is a challenging condition to manage that is commonly treated by surgical resection of the tumor. Stereotactic radiosurgery targeting the tumor is used to control pain and tumor growth in patients unsuitable for surgery. Stereotactic radiosurgery targeting the trigeminal nerve has been explored as a viable treatment for patients with tumor-related TN who are unsuitable for surgical removal of the tumor or whose pain is refractory to radiation therapy targeting the tumor. Information regarding the efficacy of this procedure is limited to only a few studies. We report the outcomes of Leskell Gamma Knife radiosurgery (GKRS) targeting the trigeminal nerve for tumor-related TN from a case series. ⋯ GKRS targeting the trigeminal nerve could be a safe and effective treatment for a subset of patients with tumor-related TN who are unsuitable for surgical removal of the tumor or whose pain is refractory to radiation therapy targeting the tumor.

Cervical sagittal parameters and paravertebral muscle degeneration are important factors for the occurrence of cervical spondylotic myelopathy. However, the relationship between the 2 risk factors and cervical kyphosis following cervical laminoplasty remains unknown. ⋯ We concluded that FI remarkably differed in the paraspinal muscles in the 2 groups. Multivariate logistic regression demonstrated that T1S-CLA and FI significantly influenced the process of kyphosis after cervical laminoplasty.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common brain tumor in the United States, with an annual incidence rate of 3.21 per 100,000. It is the most aggressive type of diffuse glioma and has a median survival of months after treatment. This study aims to assess the accuracy of different novel deep learning models trained on a set of simple clinical, demographic, and surgical variables to assist in clinical practice, even in areas with constrained health care infrastructure. ⋯ Novel deep learning algorithms can better predict GBM prognosis than do baseline methods and can lead to more personalized patient care regardless of extensive electronic health record availability.
