Is Restoration of Sagittal Spinopelvic Parameters Necessary in Spinal Tuberculosis of Lumbar and Lumbosacral Spine: Conservative versus Operative Management.
The relationship of spinopelvic parameters with spondylolisthesis is widely explored. However, there is scarce evidence on correlation of tuberculosis of lumbar spine with respect to spinopelvic harmony. The current study aims to find the association between functional outcomes and spinopelvic parameters in lumbar spine tuberculosis treatment. ⋯ The spinopelvic parameters played significant role in functional outcome. There is better functional outcome when LL is adequately restored. Surgical correction offered betterment of spinopelvic parameters like PT, SS, an sagittal vertical axis, which in turn leads to improvement in functional outcome.

The use of bibliometric analysis studies allows for the precise assessment of high impact contributions to various fields of study. A bibliometric assessment of academic works cited in filed patents enables tracking the academic studies which have been most influential in the development of new technologies in spine surgery. ⋯ This patent bibliometric analysis provides a general overview of trends in publications impacting spine surgery innovation over time. Our results highlight top instutions and regional contributions to spine surgery innovation within the United States and worldwide. As the first patent bibliometric study providing data on the most technologically impactful scholarly work in spine surgery, this study has not only historical value in terms of documenting the scientific and intellectual property developments in spine surgery in the past 50 years, but also practical relevance insofar as the identified trends and research hotspots that may provide researchers valuable insights regarding future decisions involving research efforts and resources allocation.

Postural abnormalities are a debilitating symptom of Parkinson disease (PD) that may require spinal intervention. Camptocormia is a unique abnormality most seen in PD, defined by a severe forward flexion of the trunk that completely resolves when supine. The condition presents a challenge due to an undefined pathophysiology and optimal therapeutic approach in a high-risk patient population. In this study, we systematically reviewed the literature regarding the use of spine surgery for the treatment of camptocormia in PD. ⋯ Despite an increased risk of complication and revision that is inherent to patients with PD, spine surgery has been proven as a reasonable alternative that should be prospectively studied further because 18 of 19 patients had favorable outcomes.

The shortcomings of business-like management systems in health care were exposed during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic when the need for flexibility and a rapid response to patients' needs became pressing. Almost all administrative decisions concerning the management of health care services have an ethical dimension. This research aims to investigate current debates on this subject and fill in the knowledge gaps. ⋯ Purely financial cost containment strategies in health care can be ineffective or even harmful. Therefore, nonfinancial control mechanisms must ensure adherence to personal and professional ethics, together with professionalism based on sound medical knowledge.

Anterior temporal lobectomy (ATL) is the most common surgical treatment for temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE), and Stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG) plays a critical role in precisely localizing the epileptogenic zone (EZ). This study aimed to explore the effect of SEEG on the long-term outcomes of different side ATL. ⋯ Some TLE patients encounter challenges in localizing the EZ through noninvasive evaluation, necessitating the use of SEEG for precise localization. Furthermore, their seizure outcomes after surgery can be the same with the patients who have a clear EZ in noninvasive evaluation. And SEEG patients can achieve a more stable long-term prognosis than non-SEEG patients.
