Pilocytic astrocytomas (PA) are the most common gliomas in children/adolescents but are less common and poorly studied in adults. Here, we describe the clinical presentation, surgical management, and outcomes of surgically treated adult patients with intraventricular (IV) PA and review the literature. ⋯ PAs in adults are rare and an IV location is even more uncommon. The findings demonstrate the challenges in caring for these patients, with overall- and progression-free survival outcomes being poorer than the general adult PA population. Findings support the employment of surgical techniques and approaches that favor gross total resection when possible. Further studies are needed to better characterize this unique presentation.

Unilateral vs Bilateral Cages in Lumbar Interbody Fusions: A Meta-Analysis of Clinical and Radiographic Outcomes.
Bilateral cages are often used for interbody fusion. However, this procedure may not be possible in some cases making unilateral cages a reasonable alternative. The literature remains divided on the clinical and radiological distinctions when comparing unilateral to bilateral cages in lumbar interbody fusion. Thus, this meta-analysis will analyze the clinical and radiographic outcomes between these 2 groups. ⋯ Unilateral cages were shown to be superior due to their reduced OR time and estimated blood loss. As for the higher rate of pseudoarthrosis, this outcome may not be related to the cage numbers and it did not affect clinical outcomes. Nevertheless, one must consider other factors such as radiographic sagittal parameters before making a surgical decision.

The superiority of Schroth exercise combined brace treatment for mild to moderate adolescent idiopathic scoliosis: A systematic review and network meta-analysis.
The current study aimed to assess and rank the comparative efficacy of different nonoperative treatments on Cobb angle, angle of trunk rotation, and quality of life for mild-to-moderate adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. ⋯ Although most conservative treatments had benefits for mild-to-moderate adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, the most optimal programs were those that included (1) at least 10 weeks of approximately 60-minute Schroth exercise sessions twice a week and (2) wearing the brace for 23 hours every day throughout the treatment period.

Ultrasound-Guided Resection of High-Grade Gliomas: A Single-Arm Meta-Analysis.
High-grade gliomas (HGGs) present a challenge in neuro-oncology, often necessitating surgical resection for optimal management. Ultrasound holds promise in achieving better gross total resection (GTR) and improving outcomes. This meta-analysis systematically evaluates literature providing robust evidence on the use of intraoperative ultrasonography (iUSG) in HGG resection. ⋯ Our study provided robust data on the utilization of iUSG-guided resection regarding the attainment of GTR and the complications related to resection. However, challenges such as outcome heterogeneity and limited complication reporting highlight the need for further research to optimize iUSG in HGG treatment. Long-term follow-up studies on patient survival and postsurgery quality of life will complement existing literature, guiding clinical practices in managing HGG.
