We aimed to explore the prognostic significance of preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) variables and novel inflammatory indicators in predicting neurological recovery post-cervical traumatic spinal cord injury (TSCI) in the study. ⋯ Intramedullary hemorrhage and IMLL and NLR are predictors of AIS grade conversion after cervical TSCI. Therefore, we suggest the combination of MRI variables and NLR for the prognostic prediction of AIS grade conversion in patients with cervical TSCI.

To establish a predictive model to evaluate the risk of adjacent vertebral refracture (VRF) after percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP) for osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (OVCF) based on perioperative imaging data. ⋯ The prediction model obtained in this study can predict refracture after PKP for OVCF early and effectively. It has an excellent predictive effect which is suitable for clinicians.

Navigated pedicle screw placement can be particularly challenging for cervical and upper thoracic levels in obese patients. This technical challenge can be compounded by smaller-diameter tools, which can be flexible and therefore confound navigation. It is imperative to avoid excessive manipulation of surrounding tissues to maintain navigation accuracy in the mobile cervical spine.1 Robotic-assisted spinal approaches use firm guides to aid drilling and screw placement but are hindered by high costs with equipment acquisition.2,3 Here, we propose a technical nuance that combines robotic surgical principles with tools that are more readily available in many surgical departments (Video 1). ⋯ Imaging showed multilevel degenerative disease and a solid prior C5-7 anterior cervical diskectomy and fusion with grade I anterolisthesis at C7-T1 due to severe facet degeneration with severe left-sided foraminal stenosis. Given failure of conservative management, the patient was brought to the operating room for left C7-T1 foraminotomy and C7-T1 posterior instrumented fusion. Here, we show the use of a tubular retractor fixed to the surgical bed for solid and reproducible trajectory for all tools to minimize the risk of surrounding tissue manipulation and its effect on navigation accuracy.

Twitter (X) is increasingly utilized by medical residency programs to boost engagement and potentially enhance ranking. This study aims to evaluate the role of Twitter (X) in neurosurgery residency programs, assessing their online activity, followership, and content to identify current practices and potential improvements. ⋯ The majority of US neurosurgery residency programs actively use Twitter (X), primarily to showcase academic achievements and aid in recruitment. The correlation between Twitter following and program ranking suggests that online engagement reflects program visibility and impact, underscoring the importance of social media in program outreach and strategic management for maximizing program benefits.

Parasinusal osteoma complicated by intracranial and orbit extension, cranial vault hyperostosis, intracranial mucocele, and inflammatory pseudotumor is exceptional. A 68-year-old man presented with a long history of progressive proptosis and recurrent episodes of keratoconjunctivitis in the left eye, with restriction in upward gaze. Contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging revealed a frontal sinus lesion extending to the left anterior fossa and orbit, featuring an intracranial cystic component and heterogeneous contrast enhancement. ⋯ The frontal sinus was cranialized, and a flap of pericranium, reinforced by Gelfoam sponge, was reflected on the anterior cranial base/orbital roof. The postoperative course was uneventful; magnetic resonance imaging depicted resolution of proptosis. Histological examination favored parasinusal osteoma associated with intracranial mucocele, frontal bone hyperostosis, and inflammatory pseudotumor.
