To propose a new lumbar degenerative staging system using the current radiological classification system. ⋯ Patients with later stages have worse clinical scores. This staging system recommends a uniform classification to assess lumbar degeneration.

The National Football League (NFL) has seen increasing scrutiny regarding its management of concussions, especially following an on-field incident involving the Miami Dolphins' quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in the 2022 season. We hope to elucidate the recent trends in the diagnosis and management of concussions during the course of 5 NFL seasons from 2019 to 2023. ⋯ Since the start of the 2021 NFL season, an increasing incidence of concussions has been noted; however, there was no change observed in the number of weeks missed after the concussions. Trends in the rates of concussions across the seasons remain largely stable, despite increased scrutiny over concussions in the sport.

Retraction of scientific publications is an important check on scientific misconduct and serves to maintain the integrity of the scientific literature. The present study aims to examine the prevalence, trends, and characteristics of retracted spine literature across basic science and clinical spine literature. ⋯ The rate of retractions has been increasing over the past 23 years, and clinical studies have been the most frequently retracted publication type. Clinicians treating disorders of the spine should be aware of these trends when relying on the clinical literature to inform their practice.

We evaluated the contributions of chronological age, comorbidity burden, and/or frailty in predicting 90-day readmission in patients undergoing degenerative scoliosis surgery. ⋯ These data support frailty as a predictor of 90-day readmission within a nationally representative sample. Frailty alone performed better than combinations of ECI and age. Interestingly, the integration of chronological age did not dramatically improve the model's performance. Limitations include the use of a national registry and a single frailty index. This provides impetus to explore biological age, rather than chronological age, as a potential tool for surgical risk assessment.

Measuring spinal alignment with radiological parameters is essential in patients with spinal conditions likely to be treated surgically. These evaluations are not usually included in the radiological report. As a result, spinal surgeons commonly perform the measurement, which is time-consuming and subject to errors. We aim to develop a fully automated artificial intelligence (AI) tool to assist in measuring alignment parameters in whole-spine lateral radiograph (WSL X-rays). ⋯ Vertebrai's measurements can accurately detect alignment parameters, making it a promising tool for measuring GSP automatically.
