Neuronavigation has become an essential system for brain tumor resections. It is sometimes difficult to obtain accurate registration of the neuronavigation with the patient in the prone position. Bony surface-matching registration should be more precise than skin surface-matching registration; however, it is difficult to establish bony registration with limited exposed bone. We created a new bony surface-matching method to a sectioned 3-dimensional (3D) virtual skull in a neuronavigation system and registered with a sectioned 3D skull. In this study, the bony surface-matching with sectioned 3D registration is applied to provide precise registration for brain tumor resection in the prone position. ⋯ Sectioned 3D skull registration was superior to whole 3D skull registration. The sectioned 3D skull method could provide accurate registration with limited exposed bone.

This study describes our experiences with anterior choroidal artery (AChA) aneurysm clipping with a focus on visualizing the AChA just behind the aneurysm to identify the risk factors for adhesion of the AChA or its branches to the posterior wall of the AChA aneurysm. ⋯ The initial course of the AChA just behind an AChA aneurysm can be evaluated using 3D rotational angiography. In contrast to a posteromedial course, a posterior or posterolateral course of the AChA just behind an AChA aneurysm can be a significant risk factor for adhesion of an AChA branch to the posterior wall of an AChA aneurysm.

Retraction of scientific publications is an important check on scientific misconduct and serves to maintain the integrity of the scientific literature. The present study aims to examine the prevalence, trends, and characteristics of retracted spine literature across basic science and clinical spine literature. ⋯ The rate of retractions has been increasing over the past 23 years, and clinical studies have been the most frequently retracted publication type. Clinicians treating disorders of the spine should be aware of these trends when relying on the clinical literature to inform their practice.

The head and neck cutaneous melanoma (HNCM) accounts for 20% of newly diagnosed melanoma. Research on prognostic models for their survival yet remains largely unexplored. This study employed a nomogram approach to develop and validate a predictive model for both overall survival (OS) and disease-specific survival (DSS) in patients with HNCM. ⋯ This study established and validated predictive nomograms for HNCM patients with robust predictive performance.

We aimed to comprehensively analyze the epidemiology, natural history, stroke events and their risk factors, and the RNF213 p.Arg4810Lys variant in older patients with moyamoya disease (MMD). ⋯ Hemorrhagic events were the most prevalent and prognostically deteriorating factors in older patients with MMD aged ≥60 years. AchA dilatation and choroidal anastomosis were predictors of de novo hemorrhage in asymptomatic nonsurgical hemispheres in older patients with MMD.
