This study examined cervical center of rotation (COR) positions in 7 postures using validated cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) combined with 3D-3D registration in healthy volunteers. ⋯ Our findings reveal segment-specific and posture-dependent COR variations. Notably, the CORs of C3/4, C4/5, and C5/6 consistently align near the intervertebral disc's GC at different postures, supporting their suitability for total disc replacement surgery within the C3/4 to C5/6 segments.

We sought to identify trends in the number of female neurosurgeons across each state and identify state characteristics that affect such values. ⋯ States with more training programs, female physicians, and paid parental leave policies saw a large number of female neurosurgeons. Diversity in the general population is also crucial to improving the equity in gender representation of neurosurgeons in each state. The increase in female neurosurgery representation in rural states shows that the shortage of neurosurgeons in underserved areas is creating a unique niche for female neurosurgeons to excel.

Despite its rising popularity, little has been described about locum tenens employment (locums) in neurosurgery. This study provides the first nationwide overview of the locums neurosurgery experience. ⋯ Locums is utilized by neurosurgeons across multiple practice types and may serve to complement workloads or "fill in gaps" between longer-term employment. Overall, locums neurosurgeons are well compensated, and the majority are satisfied with their experience(s). Inevitably, flaws still exist with locums employment, which may be the focus of organized efforts aiming to improve the experience.

To describe an intuitive and useful method for measuring the global impact of a medical scholar's research ideas by examining cross-border citations (CBCs) of peer-reviewed neurosurgical publications. ⋯ This intuitive update to the h-index uses CBCs to measure the global impact of scientific research. The hglobal-index may provide insight into global diffusion of medical ideas, which can be used for social science research, author self-assessment, and academic promotion.

To determine the effects of thoracic stiffness on mechanical stress in the lumbar spine during motion. ⋯ Biomechanically, disc stress and pars interarticularis stress decrease in the flexible thoracic spine. Flexibility of the thoracic spine reduces lumbar spine loading and could help to prevent stress-related disorders.
