Maximizing surgical resection of medulloblastoma (MB) affects overall survival; nevertheless, surgical resection remains a because of the infiltrative behavior of this tumor. Several dyes have been tested for improving tumor visualization; however, few reports with different protocols of fluorophores use are available and the results are inconsistent. Hence, we report our experience with sodium fluorescein in MB surgery, aiming to assess the role of this technique on the extent of resection. Furthermore, we performed a literature review of this topic. ⋯ Based on these results, we can infer that fluorescein-guided surgical resection is a safe and valuable method for patients with MB.

Posterior single-door laminoplasty is a widely practiced clinical procedure, but the occurrence of postoperative axial syndrome (AS) remains a significant concern. The aim of this study was to identify risk factors associated with AS and develop a risk prediction model. ⋯ Pre-op ERASC, pre-op CC, intraoperative facet joints destruction, intraoperative open-door angle, postoperative loss of cervical curvature, postoperative loss of cervical range of motion, and postoperation early function training are independent influencing factors for AS occurrence. The risk model has good practicability.

Cerebrospinal fluid shunt placement is associated with high rates of infection. Multiple standardized protocols, particularly in pediatric populations, have been proposed to mitigate this infection rate. We sought to determine the effectiveness of a standardized shunt infection protocol in a large adult population. ⋯ The implementation of an evidence-based perioperative shunt infection protocol is an effective method to decrease shunt infections. Broad-spectrum perioperative antibiotics may not have greater efficacy than gram-positive only coverage, but more research is required.

We searched to quantify the influence of sagittal vertical axis (SVA) on the improvement of spatiotemporal gait parameters using a gait motion analysis (GMA) before and after decompression surgery in patients suffering from lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS). ⋯ This study analyses the relationship between postural change (SVA) and improvement in gait parameters measured during GMA before and after decompression surgery for LSS. This specific analysis of gait parameters may represent a prognostic assessment tool for the recovery of patients undergoing surgery for a LSS.

Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) is a collection of connective tissue disorders which are often associated with tissue laxity and disc degeneration. However, the implications of EDS on the risk of adjacent segment disease (ASD) after transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) are not well described. The objective of this study is to compare the rates of ASD among patients with EDS and those without EDS. ⋯ After propensity matching to control for confounding variables, the findings of this study suggest that EDS may be associated with an increased risk of ASD following TLIF. Future studies are needed to corroborate these findings.
