To describe patients, perioperative care, and outcomes undergoing supratentorial and infratentorial craniotomy for brain tumor resection in a tertiary-care hospital in Ethiopia. ⋯ These findings suggest that certain factors may impact patient outcomes following craniotomy for tumor resection. By identifying these factors, health care providers may be better equipped to develop individualized treatment plans and improve patient outcomes. Additionally, the study highlights the importance of postoperative monitoring and management to prevent complications.

Postoperative drains have long been regarded as a preventive measure to mitigate the risks of complications such as neurological impairment by reducing fluid accumulation following spine surgery. Our study aims to contribute to the existing body of knowledge by examining the effects of postoperative drain output on the 90-day postoperative outcomes for patients who experienced an incidental durotomy after lumbar decompression procedures, with or without fusion. ⋯ For patients undergoing primary lumbar decompression with or without fusion and experiencing an incidental durotomy, no significant association was found between the drain output and 90-day patient outcomes. Adequate fascial closure and the absence of symptoms may be satisfactory criteria for standard patient discharge regardless of drain output.

Spetzler-Martin grade V (>6 cm) arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are traditionally considered inoperable. A 35-year-old man presented with repeated seizures for 7 years, and computed tomography arteriography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed left deep hemispheric AVM. ⋯ Well-equipped neurosurgery facilities can best manage selective Spetzler-Martin grade V AVMs with no neurologic deficits contrary to their traditionally inoperable concept. Successful surgery offers the patient a better quality of life.

Tarlov cysts are known contributors to radiculopathy but are often misdiagnosed and mismanaged due to a paucity of information. This is particularly true of cervical spine Tarlov cysts because most attention has been focused on sacral cysts. In this study, we describe our longitudinal experience with patients who underwent surgery for cervical spine Tarlov cysts. We hypothesized that patients undergoing surgical treatment for cervical spine Tarlov cysts would report improvement following surgery. ⋯ Our longitudinal series consisted of patients with symptomatic cervical spine Tarlov cysts, which, to the best of our knowledge, is the largest series described. Significant improvements in the SF-36 domains were documented, indicating these patients can be successfully treated surgically.

Embolization and stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) have increasingly been used to treat complex arteriovenous malformations (AVMs). We studied outcomes of AVM patients treated through a multidisciplinary approach, examined the effect of embolization on SRS success, and analyzed predictors of treatment failure. ⋯ High AVM obliteration rates were achieved with judicious use of radiosurgery alone or with embolization. Embolization reduced target nidus volume by an average of 66%. SRS target volume was an independent predictor of treatment failure.
