To evaluate the relationships between Doximity rankings (Doximity, Inc.) of residency programs and 2 new ranking systems based on publication rates and academic pursuits. ⋯ We introduced 2 new methods to rank residency programs based on the number of graduates pursuing an academic position and the median number of published manuscripts per resident. By taking a comprehensive approach, neurosurgery applicants can ensure that they select a residency program that meets their needs and offers them the best opportunity for success.

According to the 2017 World Health Organization classification of neuro-endocrine tumors, pituitary adenomas (PAs) are classified according to immunoexpression of the pituitary-specific transcription factors (TFs). A small subset of PAs exhibit multiple TF staining on immunohistochemistry and we present a series of 27 pathologically-confirmed cases of dual TF staining PAs (dsTF-PAs), and report clinically relevant implications. ⋯ PAs exhibiting dsTF-PAs represent a small but clinically relevant diagnostic subset of PAs according to the 2021 World Health Organization criteria, as a majority are GH-producing. Precise classification using TF staining plays a key role in understanding the biology of these tumors. Favorable outcomes can be achieved in this subset of PAs with evolving TF classification.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is 1 of the leading causes of death in all age groups globally. Understanding TBI causative factors and early interventions that may result in poor outcomes plays an important role in decreasing the mortality and disability associated with TBI. ⋯ Understanding the causes, patterns, and distribution of people with TBI in this study will benefit our country and others to develop policies, research, health management, and rehabilitation tools at the national level.

Consciousness assessment is crucial for patients with traumatic brain injury. In this study, we developed a novel scoring system combining the Glasgow coma scale (GCS) and the full outline of unresponsiveness (FOUR) and evaluated its association with the intensive care unit (ICU) length of stay, mortality, and functional outcome. ⋯ The GCS-FOUR is a novel scoring system comparable to the GCS and FOUR regarding its association with functional status after injury, ICU length of stay, and mortality. The GCS-FOUR score provides greater neurological detail than the GCS due to the inclusion of brainstem reflexes, in addition to using the experience of healthcare providers with the GCS score compared with the FOUR in most settings.
