Deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery for Parkinson's Disease (PD) has become more and more popular in Vietnam. However, the accuracy of implantation and affecting factors are under investigation. The objective of this study is to evaluate the accuracy of the subthalamic nucleus (STN)-DBS electrode implantation technique for treatment PD at Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital and University Medical Center. To investigate factors related to accuracy. ⋯ The current STN-DBS electrode implantation technique applied in our centers was quite accurate with acceptable error. More clinical trials are necessary to directly compare affecting factors to the accuracy of electrode implantation.

Metastatic spinal tumors represent 90% of spinal masses and present variably with slow progression and/or rapid symptomatic worsening. Several prognostic scoring systems have been proposed. However, patients presenting acutely and requiring emergent surgery represent a unique subset of patients with different prognostic indicators. ⋯ KPS and Tokuhashi scores most strongly correlated with 6-month survival in patients presenting with acutely symptomatic spinal metastases. These findings underscore the importance of baseline functional status and overall tumor burden on survival and may be useful in preoperative evaluation and surgical decision making for acutely presenting spinal metastases.

Pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) has been used for treatment of chronic pain in several body regions, including axial and radicular pain. However, a limited number of reports have specifically demonstrated the effectiveness of PRF for spine-related pain among nonsurgical patients. Therefore, we evaluated the effectiveness of PRF for lumbar spine-associated pain in patients without recent spine surgery, and identified the factors associated with clinically meaningful improvement in pain and quality of life. ⋯ Our results demonstrated that PRF improved pain and patient-reported outcomes for spine-related pain for at least 6 months in our patient cohort. PRF may be a good option for treating lumbar spine-related issues, even with severe pain and/or dysfunction.

Decompressive lumbar laminectomy (DLL) is a common procedure for lumbar stenosis. A unilateral approach, unlike the traditional open approach, spares the posterior elements to mitigate the risk of iatrogenic instability associated with a DLL. Various minimally invasive techniques have been described but little attention has been aimed toward this specific microsurgical approach, particularly regarding obese patients. We aimed to compare operative details, perioperative outcomes, and complication profiles between obese and nonobese patients. ⋯ Compared with the nonobese group, the obese group had significantly longer length of hospitalization, as well as nonsignificantly increased length of operation and decreased blood loss. The 2 groups had similar perioperative complication rates.

Awake craniotomy is an effective procedure for optimizing the onco-functional balance of resections in glioma. However, limited data exists on the cognition, emotional states, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of patients with glioma who undergo awake craniotomy. This study aims to describe 1) perioperative cognitive function and emotional states in a multilingual Asian population, 2) associations between perioperative cognitive function and follow-up HRQoL, and 3) associations between preoperative emotional states and follow-up HRQoL. ⋯ This descriptive case series showed that patients with higher preoperative cognitive scores reported better follow-up HRQoL, while patients who reported more preoperative depressive and stress symptomatology reported worse follow-up HRQoL. Future analytical studies may help to draw conclusions about whether perioperative cognition and emotional states predict HRQoL on follow-up.
