The aim of this study was to investigate the changes in spine-pelvis sagittal parameters from the standing position to the prone position and to study the relationship between sagittal parameters and immediately postoperative parameters. ⋯ The LKCA and TK of old traumatic kyphosis obviously changed from the standing position to the prone position, which were linear with postoperative LKCA and TK and can be used to predict postoperative sagittal parameters. This change should be taken into account in the surgical strategy.

Middle meningeal artery embolization (MMAE) is an effective minimally invasive option for chronic subdural hematoma (cSDH). Dexamethasone and statins have been reported to improve the resolution of cSDH and reduce its recurrence. However, only 1 study has investigated the role of statins in patients treated with MMAE, and there is no such study on dexamethasone. Thus, we used the TriNetX research network to determine whether adding dexamethasone or statin along with primary MMAE is associated with a benefit in outcomes. ⋯ Patients treated with primary MMAE and were on dexamethasone or statins had no differences in mortality and functional/provider dependence compared to those who were not on dexamethasone or statins. Patients on dexamethasone had a higher prevalence of headaches.

The painDETECT questionnaire (PDQ) is one of the available screening tools for neuropathic pain (NeP), with a cut-off score of 13. This study aimed to investigate changes in PDQ scores in patients undergoing posterior cervical decompression surgery for degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM). ⋯ Approximately 30% of patients exhibited preoperative PDQ scores ≥13, and about half of these patients demonstrated improvements to below to the cut-off value for NeP after posterior cervical decompression surgery. The PDQ score change was relatively associated with preoperative neck pain.

To evaluate the effects of 3 lumbar interbody fusion techniques on the occurrence of complications in an osteoporotic spine under whole-body vibration. ⋯ In an osteoporotic spine under whole-body vibration, TLIF has the highest risk of screw and rod breakage, PLIF has the highest risk of cage subsidence, and ALIF has the lowest risk of upper adjacent disc degeneration, but the highest risk of adjacent facet joint degeneration.

To investigate trends in the characteristics of postoperative C5 palsy following anterior decompression and fusion associated with advancements in this surgical procedure to treat cervical degenerative disorders. ⋯ With advancements in surgical techniques which allowed necessary and sufficient spinal cord decompression and avoided unnecessary corpectomy, the incidence of C5 palsy in patients without OPLL was decreased significantly. By contrast, for patients with OPLL, the incidence of C5 palsy was similar to the incidence found previously, perhaps because a broad and contiguous multilevel corpectomy was usually needed to decompress the spinal cord sufficiently.
