This study aimed to determine the bibliometric characteristics of scientific articles on systematic reviews of neurosurgery worldwide. ⋯ The increasing trend during the past 20 years, and especially in the past 2 years, highlights the advancements in various subspecialities in the field. Our analysis revealed that North American and Western European countries are at the forefront of the field. There is a poor output of publications, authors, and affiliations in Latin-American and African countries.

Effects of postoperative intravenous Cyclosporine treatement on the survival and functional performance status of patients with glioblastoma: A randomized, triple-blinded, placebo-controlled clinical trial.
Glioblastoma is associated with low median survival time irrespective of maximal treatment. Previous in vitro studies have revealed tumor inhibitory effect of cyclosporine A. However, whether the addition of cyclosporine could improve survival among patients with glioblastoma is unknown. This study aimed to determine the impact of postoperation treatment with cyclosporine on the survival and performance status. ⋯ Our study results demonstrated that administering postoperative cyclosporine does not improve OS and functional performance status. Notably, the survival rate was significantly dependent on the patient age and the extent of glioblastoma resection.

A 39-year-old male presented to our institution after sustaining a gunshot wound to the face. He was initially unresponsive with bleeding from the nares bilaterally and was intubated for airway protection. A computed tomography angiogram of the head and neck demonstrated multiple foci of active extravasation in the left maxillary sinus. ⋯ Embolization immediately halted the bleeding. The patient was neurologically intact at his most recent follow-up appointment. This case demonstrates the importance of obtaining an emergent computed tomography angiography for patients with ballistic facial trauma and early involvement of endovascular neurosurgery for treatment of intractable sinonasal bleeding.

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory joint disease. Complications such as traumatic spinal fractures are mostly caused by hyperextension and are unstable. We report the cases of 5 patients with AS surgically treated for thoracolumbar fractures. ⋯ To prevent postoperative neurologic complications after the surgical treatment of traumatic hyperextension thoracic and lumbar fractures in patients with AS, we recommend securing the fracture level with unilateral short-level stabilization under local anesthesia and then completing the operation with general anesthesia.

"Should Redo Surgery be Offered to Patients with Relapsed Glioblastoma? - Outcome analyses of a single institution comparative cohort study".
Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the predominant malignant brain tumor originating intracranially. The established first-line treatment postsurgery is concurrent chemoradiation as a definitive measure. However, recurrent GBM's pose a challenge for clinicians who rely on institutional experience to determine the most suitable course of action. Second-line chemotherapy may be administered with or without surgery depending on the institution's practice. This study aims to present our tertiary center institution's experience with recurrent GBM patients who underwent redo surgery. ⋯ Our study found that redo surgery for recurrent GBM is a viable treatment option for a select group of patients with good performance status, longer PFS from primary treatment, and compressive symptoms. However, the use of redo surgery varies depending on the institution. A well-designed randomized controlled trial in this population would help establish the standard of surgical care.
