Pain of lumbosacral segment of the vertebral column and the pelvis concerns about 45% of all pregnant women. The change of the body posture during pregnancy is the result of gravity centre relocation, which affects the musculosceletal system. Development of the joint, ligament and myofascial dysfunctions, as well as the pain in the lumbosacral segment and the pelvis, are the most common reasons of spine pain. ⋯ Lumbar pain with different location and intensification is the negative consequence of the position changes during pregnancy. Pharmacotherapy could be useful only in cases of intensive low back pain, with possible application of small spectrum of drugs that are safe during pregnancy. Physical therapy including manual therapy exercises, massage and techniques of local anesthesia are alternative methods in case of low back pain in pregnant women.

Practice Guideline
[Cardiopulmonary resuscitation in pregnancy--European Resuscitation Council guidelines].
Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation is a life-saving technique that should be familiar to all people, even those without medical education. There are two basic life-saving levels: BLS (Basic Life Support) and ALS (Advanced Life Support). ALS a medical procedure that is restricted to medical practitioners. ⋯ Cardiac arrest in case of pregnant women is a very specific state. The cause of life-threatening states during pregnancy can be connected with new infections, exacerbation of chronic diseases, as well as changes connected with the pregnancy itself. In those situations, due to physiological and anatomical changes which occur during pregnancy some modifications in the procedure of resuscitation are necessary

Comparative Study
[Extended analysis of urethral profilometry in women with urinary stress incontinence--preliminary report].
Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is the most common kind of urinary incontinence in women. Treatment efficiency depends on the type of stress urinary incontinence. ⋯ Lower values of fields under the urethral profilometry curve can suggest a greater urethral closing mechanism deficiency and the coexistence of the external sphincter insufficiency This parameter can be very useful in the group of patients with moderate leakage point.

Increasing evidence indicates that genetic factors are involved in the process of carcinogenesis. BRCA 1 mutation has been proven to be responsible for increased risk of ovarian cancer However the importance of other genetic disorders, such as MTHFR polymorphism for increased risk of carcinogenesis, is still to be determined. Abnormal methylation seems to play a significant role in ovarian cancer pathogenesis. MTHFR catalyses the conversion of 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate into 5-methyltetrahydrofolate which is a co-substrate in homocysteine remethylation into methionine. Thermolabile MTHFR protein variants with lower enzymatic activity are the effects of the mutation. ⋯ Contrary to numerous suggestions in various publications, we did not confirm the correlation between MTHFR 677C>T polymorphism and the influence on the risk of ovarian cancer in BRCA1 mutation carriers in the investigated group of Polish women.

Obstetric hemorrhage is a life-threatening situation for every mother and child. NovoSeven is a recombinant, activated factor VII which may be useful in the treatment of uncontrollable hemorrhage. It accelerates hemostasis by direct activation of the factor X. ⋯ NovoSeven is a very effective agent in the treatment of postpartum hemorrhage.
