Comparative Study
[Obstetric outcomes in oxytocin-related and spontaneous deliveries--analysis of 2198 cases].
The aim of the work was to compare labour courses, ways of delivery, condition of the newborns in spontaneous and oxytocin-related labours and to analyse the indications for oxytocin administration. ⋯ (1) Hypokinetic uterine contractions were the most frequent indication for oxytocin administration during labour. (2) Oxytocin administration increases twice the risk of delivery by the caesarean section. (3) Newborns after vaginal oxytocin-related labours scored 7 or below on the Apgar score in the first minute after the birth when compared to the newborns after spontaneous labour. (4) Oxytocin administration during parturition elongates the time of newborns hospitalisation.

Recent studies suggest that preterm delivery might be conditioned genetically. The main aim of this study was to examine the relationship between spontaneous preterm delivery (PTD) and the carriage of polymorphic genes that code the following cytokines: interleukin-1beta [IL1beta (+3953C>T)], interleukin-6 promoter [IL6 (-174G>C)], tumour necrosis factor-alpha promoter [TNFalpha (-308G>A)] and interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL1RN) in the population of Polish women. ⋯ Maternal carriage of the IL1RN*2 allele appears to be associated with an elevated risk of preterm delivery in the population of Polish women. Coincidence of IL1RN*2 with at least one copy of IL-6 allele G might increase the risk of preterm delivery even further.

Practice Guideline
[The statement of Polish Gynecological Society experts on oral use of contraceptive 75 microg desogestrel minipill in different clinical cases--state of art in 2008].
Recent epidemiologic studies indicate that use of combined oral contraception is associated with a increase in the incidence of cardiovascular disease (venous thromboembolism, pulmonary embolism, myocardial infarction and stroke). The risk of cardiovascular disease is strongly related to estrogen dose, progestogen type and other factors for example thrombogenic mutations and cigarette smoking among female over age 35. The progestogen only contraception is safe alternative to combined hormonal contraception. ⋯ Desogestrel containing POP is advised in the following cases: bad tolerance of exogenous oestrogens; in order to counteract an endogenous hyperoestrogenosis; medical, metabolic or cardiovascular contraindications to estroprogestogen contraception. Lastly, POP should be used as a prime contraception in some particular situations (breast feeding, endometriosis, adenomyosis, cigarette smoking, contraception for older women). These recommendations present the actual system of care in that population of women in Poland.

During pregnancy viruses of high oncogenic potential--types 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, which had so far remained in the state of chronic infection, undergo reactivation. Among the potential ways of HPV transmission to foetus, the direct perinatal infection is mentioned. In the antenatal period of pregnancy, a descending way of infection through blood is analyzed. ⋯ Incidental or persistent infection with highly oncogenic types of HPV present in cervix paraepidermal epithelium cells is observed in approximately 30% of pregnant women. The presence of DNA HPV HR in trophoblast cells of HPV HR positive mothers is diagnosed rarely, in less than 7% of pregnant women. Human Papilloma Virus is present in the peripheral blood of pregnant women sporadically. None of the currently known risk factors of HPV infection may be correlated with DNA HPV HR presence in pregnant women.

The study presents a retrospective review of patients diagnosed with abdominal wall endometrioma in the cesarean section scar between the years 2001-2006. ⋯ Endometriosis in postoperative abdominal wall scar after cesarean section is rarely observed. Because to the fact that the number of cesarean sections is constantly increasing, this complication becomes more frequent. The treatment of choice is surgical resection.
