Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative StudyMood disorders after traumatic brain injury in adolescents and young adults: a nationwide population-based cohort study.
To delineate the relationship between traumatic brain injury (TBI) and mood disorders from population-based data in Taiwan. ⋯ Our findings show a higher likelihood of manifesting mood disorders in adolescents and young adults who sustained a prior TBI. Health professionals should carefully monitor both the physical and psychological impacts of head trauma.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyA randomized controlled trial of two nasal continuous positive airway pressure levels after extubation in preterm infants.
To compare extubation failure rate with two ranges of nasal continuous positive airway pressure (NCPAP) in oxygen dependent preterm infants. ⋯ Extubation failure in preterm infants with residual lung disease was lower with NCPAP range of 7-9 compared with 4-6 cmH2O. These findings suggest the need for higher distending pressure post-extubation in the more immature infants who are still oxygen dependent.

Randomized Controlled TrialMaternal vitamin D3 supplementation during the third trimester of pregnancy: effects on infant growth in a longitudinal follow-up study in Bangladesh.
To estimate the effects of prenatal vitamin D supplementation on infant growth in Dhaka, Bangladesh. ⋯ Maternal vitamin D3 supplementation (35 000 IU/wk) during the third trimester of pregnancy enhanced early postnatal linear growth in a cohort of infants in Bangladesh.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffects of early prebiotic and probiotic supplementation on development of gut microbiota and fussing and crying in preterm infants: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.
To evaluate the impact of early prebiotic and probiotic intervention on preterm infants' well-being, crying, growth, and microbiological programming. ⋯ Early prebiotic and probiotic supplementation may alleviate symptoms associated with crying and fussing in preterm infants. This original finding may offer new therapeutic and preventive measures for this common disturbance in early life.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyEfficacy and safety of continuous infusion of fentanyl for pain control in preterm newborns on mechanical ventilation.
To evaluate the analgesic superiority and the safety equivalence of continuous fentanyl infusions versus fentanyl boluses in preterm infants on mechanical ventilation. ⋯ In very preterm infants on mechanical ventilation, continuous fentanyl infusion plus open-label boluses of fentanyl does not reduce prolonged pain, but does reduce acute pain and increase side effects compared with open-label boluses of fentanyl alone.
