Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyLow-molecular-weight heparin and aspirin in the prevention of recurrent early-onset pre-eclampsia in women with antiphospholipid antibodies: the FRUIT-RCT.
To examine whether combined treatment with low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) and aspirin reduces recurrent hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HD: pre-eclampsia, eclampsia or HELLP syndrome) in women with antiphospholipid antibodies (aPLA) and a previous delivery for HD and/or small-for-gestational-age (SGA) birthweight before 34 weeks gestation. ⋯ In this population of women with aPLA, who had previously had an early delivery for HD and/or SGA prior to 34 weeks gestation, combined LMWH and aspirin treatment started before 12 weeks gestation in a subsequent pregnancy did not show reduction of onset of recurrent HD either <34 weeks gestation or irrespective of gestational age, compared with aspirin alone.

Prenatal exposure to zidovudine and risk for ventricular septal defects and congenital heart defects: data from the Antiretroviral Pregnancy Registry.
To assess the risk for ventricular septal defects and congenital heart defects following zidovudine exposure during pregnancy using data from the Antiretroviral Pregnancy Registry. ⋯ ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT01137981.

Analysis of the gene polymorphism of aldosterone synthase (CYP11B2) and atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) in women with preeclampsia.
Preeclampsia (PE) is a major cause of mortality of mothers, fetuses and newborns around the world. The etiology of preeclampsia has not yet been clarified, but many studies indicate a multifactorial basis of PE. Aldosterone synthase (CYP11B2) is responsible for synthesis of aldosterone responsible for regulating blood pressure. Similarly, natriuretic peptide (ANP) regulates blood pressure through a variety of mechanisms affecting the sodium concentration and the amount of extracellular fluid. Currently, attention is paid to the role of the polymorphisms in the expression level of these genes. The aim of the study was to determine the frequencies of genotypes and alleles for polymorphisms of -344C>T CYP11B2 gene and 2238T>C ANP gene in women with preeclampsia and healthy pregnant women from the Caucasian population. ⋯ Our findings showed that gene polymorphism of CYP11B2 (-344C>T) and ANP (2238T>C) may be associated with developing PE during pregnancy.

Pessary placement in the prevention of preterm birth in multiple pregnancies: a propensity score analysis.
In asymptomatic women with a multiple pregnancy and short cervix prophylactic use of a cervical pessary might reduce preterm birth. We assessed the possible treatment effects of pessary use in pregnancy duration and for poor perinatal outcome. ⋯ In this cohort study with propensity score analysis, pessary use did not prevent preterm birth in asymptomatic women with a multiple pregnancy and short cervix.

The impact of sperm morphology on the outcome of intrauterine insemination cycles with gonadotropins in unexplained and male subfertility.
To determine the impact of sperm morphology on success of intrauterine insemination (IUI) in unexplained and male subfertility. ⋯ Morphological evaluation is not a reliable parameter alone for predicting pregnancy outcome in unexplained infertility. In male subfertility, post-wash normal sperm morphology percentage higher than 4.5 increases the probability of live birth.
