Multicenter StudySafety of intra-articular hip injection of hyaluronic acid products by ultrasound guidance: an open study from ANTIAGE register.
We developed a standardized technique for ultrasound guided intra-articular injection of the hip joint with the purpose of extending routine intra-articular injection of hyaluronans and steroids to the hip, as commonly used in the knee. In this article we report the safety of this technique in an extended series of patients. ⋯ The administration of hyaluronans under ultrasound-guided intra-articular injection is a safe technique for treatment of rheumatic diseases of the hip.

Multicenter Study Comparative StudyVirtual bronchoscopy using FDG-PET/CT images for the evaluation of lung cancer.
We aimed to put forward the contribution of virtual bronchoscopy in the determination and diagnosis of tracheobronchial system pathologies. We compared the data obtained from PET/CT and virtual bronchoscopy (VB) with the fiberoptic bronchoscopy (FOB) data of the cases with a diagnosis or pre-diagnosis of lung tumor. ⋯ The sensitivity of PET/CT-VB in determining the involved tracheobronchial segment(s) in malignancy and concomitant pathologies in cases with lung tumor was remarkably higher than that with CT-VB. Therefore, PET/CT-VB is recommended to be included in routine lung cancer examinations since it provides similar outcomes to that of FOB+cytohistopathological examination.

Multicenter StudyIntrajejunal levodopa infusion in advanced Parkinson's disease: long-term effects on motor and non-motor symptoms and impact on patient's and caregiver's quality of life.
Continuous infusion of intrajejunal levodopa/carbidopa gel (CIILG) for advanced Parkinson's disease (PD) has been proved to be beneficial on motor complications, non-motor symptoms and quality of life in the short-term follow-up. Aim of this two-center, retrospective, open-label study was to evaluate the long-term effect of CIILG on patients' condition and caregivers' quality of life. ⋯ CIILG is an effective treatment option for patients with advanced PD over the long-term period as it may improve both the motor complications and the psychiatric side effects caused by other dopaminergic therapies.

Multicenter StudyHip viscosupplementation under ultra-sound guidance riduces NSAID consumption in symptomatic hip osteoarthritis patients in a long follow-up. Data from Italian registry.
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) consumption is strictly related to a high gastrointestinal and cardiovascular mortality and morbidity rate. Osteoarthritis Research Society International (OARSI) recommendations in patients with symptomatic hip or knee OA stated that NSAIDs should be used at the lowest effective dose but their long-term use should be avoided if possible. OARSI guidelines for the treatment of the hip OA include the use of viscosupplementation, which aims to restore physiological and rheological features of the synovial fluid. ⋯ These data point out that intraarticular hyaluronan preparations provide OA pain relief and reduce NSAIDs consumption in a large cohort of patients for a long period of follow-up. Multiple courses of viscosupplementation (vs) are required to maintain low dose of NSAID consumption over time. NSAIDs consumption is strictly related to an high gastrointestinal and cardiovascular mortality and morbidity rate, instead HA intra-articular treatment is well tolerated and is associated with a low incidence of adverse effects. For these reasons further studies evaluating cost-effectiveness and cost-utility of VS in the management of hip OA are required.

Multicenter StudyOpioid-related bowel dysfunction: prevalence and identification of predictive factors in a large sample of Italian patients on chronic treatment.
Opioid-bowel dysfunction (OBD) is a broad range of symptoms potentially associated with opioid therapy. This prospective, multicentric study assesses the prevalence of OBD in patients on analgesic therapy for the treatment of pain from any cause and identifies the factors associated with the onset of this side effect. ⋯ Even with the limitation of any observational experience, this study suggests, for the first time, the existence of some factors predictive of the onset of OBD symptoms in patients on analgesic treatment. Moreover, different opioids seem to be associated with a different risk of experiencing these symptoms.
