Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
Oral ketamine and midazolam for pediatric burn patients: a prospective, randomized, double-blind study.
The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of oral midazolam and ketamine with oral midazolam, acetaminophen, and codeine in providing sedation and analgesia for wound care procedures in children with burns. ⋯ The combination of oral midazolam and ketamine provides better analgesia than the combination of midazolam, acetaminophen, and codeine for painful procedures in burned children.

TachoSil, which is an absorbable collagen sponge coated with human fibrinogen and thrombin, has proven to enhance hemostasis and promote optimal wound healing in adults undergoing nephron sparing surgery (NSS). We report our preliminary experience using this hemostatic agent during NSS in children. ⋯ In children undergoing NSS, TachoSil represents an effective and safe tool for control of mild to moderate bleeding, and also facilitates sealing and wound dressing.

Aortoiliac thrombosis is rare in infants and neonates. Protein C deficiency is frequently observed with venous thromboembolism, but off-late report of arterial thrombosis is increasingly common. ⋯ Patient operated on in emergency by transperitoneal route. Aortoiliac and right popliteal artery thromboembolectomy with closure of aortotomy with polytetraflouroethylene patch was performed.

Staying abreast of the literature in a given speciality is difficult. The aim of this study is to analyze the publication patterns of the neonatal surgical literature over the last six decades. ⋯ Publication patterns for neonatal surgical conditions have changed significantly over time. The majority of articles are published outside of pediatric surgical journals. Pediatric surgeons should not limit their reading to these journals.
