Progression of COVID-19 to severe disease and death is insufficiently understood. ⋯ Public health screening for COVID-19 can be prioritized based on risk-groups. Appropriately addressing the modifiable risk factors such as smoking, hypertension, and diabetes could reduce morbidity and mortality due to COVID-19; public messaging can be accordingly adapted.

Rate of Intensive Care Unit admission and outcomes among patients with coronavirus: A systematic review and Meta-analysis.
The rate of ICU admission among patients with coronavirus varied from 3% to 100% and the mortality was as high as 86% of admitted patients. The objective of the systematic review was to investigate the rate of ICU admission, mortality, morbidity, and complications among patients with coronavirus. ⋯ This Systematic review and Meta-Analysis was registered in Prospero international prospective register of systemic reviews (CRD42020177095) on April 9/2020.

Reduction in total leukocytes in malaria patients compared to febrile controls: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Leukocyte alterations are a common hematological alteration among malaria patients. ⋯ This systematic review demonstrated that the total leukocyte count was affected by malarial infection at baseline despite the heterogeneity of the included studies. Future work must aim to understand the treatment-related total leukocyte reduction during follow-up or post-treatment outcomes in malaria-endemic settings.

Although expression of long non-coding RNA metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT-1) in tumor tissues has been assessed in several malignancies. However, the association between lncRNA MALAT-1 expression and prognosis or clinicopathological feature remains controversial. Therefore, we conducted a meta-analysis to verify whether lncRNA MALAT-1 expression was associated with prognosis or clinicopathological features in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). ⋯ The overexpression of lncRNA MALAT-l in NSCLC tissues was correlated with OS, gender, tumor size, LNM, tumor differentiation, and TNM stage. Thus, lncRNA MALAT-l may serve as a prognostic factor for NSCLC.

Dexmedetomidine use in pediatric strabismus surgery: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Common complications of pediatric strabismus surgery, including emergence agitation (EA), postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV), and postoperative pain, may be prevented using dexmedetomidine, which is an anxiolytic and analgesic. This systematic review and meta-analysis assessed the effects of dexmedetomidine in patients who had undergone pediatric strabismus surgery. ⋯ In patients who have undergone pediatric strabismus surgery, dexmedetomidine use may alleviate EA, PONV, and postoperative pain and reduce OCR incidence. Moreover, dexmedetomidine use does not affect the PACU stay duration.
