Multicenter Study Comparative StudyMethods for constructing and assessing propensity scores.
To model the steps involved in preparing for and carrying out propensity score analyses by providing step-by-step guidance and Stata code applied to an empirical dataset. ⋯ Propensity scores are one useful tool for accounting for observed differences between treated and comparison groups. Careful testing of propensity scores is required before using them to estimate treatment effects.

Multicenter Study Clinical TrialIntroducing quality improvement methods into local public health departments: structured evaluation of a statewide pilot project.
To test the feasibility and assess the preliminary impact of a unique statewide quality improvement (QI) training program designed for public health departments. ⋯ QI methods and techniques can be successfully implemented in local public health agencies on a statewide basis using the collaborative model through distance training and expert facilitation. This unique training can improve both core and support processes and lead to favorable staff reactions, increased knowledge, and improved health outcomes. The program can be further improved and deployed and holds great promise to facilitate the successful dissemination of proven QI methods throughout local public health departments.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyTranslating research into practice intervention improves management of acute pain in older hip fracture patients.
To test an interdisciplinary, multifaceted, translating research into practice (TRIP) intervention to (a) promote adoption, by physicians and nurses, of evidence-based (EB) acute pain management practices in hospitalized older adults, (b) decrease barriers to use of EB acute pain management practices, and (c) decrease pain intensity of older hospitalized adults. ⋯ The TRIP intervention improved quality of acute pain management of older adults hospitalized with a hip fracture.
