Randomized Controlled Trial
Dexmedetomidine reduces Catheter-Related Bladder Discomfort: A Prospective, Randomized, Placebo- Controlled, Double-Blind Study.
To evaluate the efficacy of dexmedetomidine in preventing catheterrelated bladder discomfort (CRBD) in a postanesthesia care unit (PACU). ⋯ Dexmedetomidine (0.5 μg/kg IV) administration during surgery reduced the incidence and severity of CRBD in the PACU without causing significant side effects.

Randomized Controlled Trial
Timing of ondansetron administration to prevent postoperative nausea and vomiting.
The original guidelines for using ondansetron recommending its administration prior to induction of anesthesia have been questioned. ⋯ This clinical study indicates that when performing prolonged surgical procedures, late administration of ondansetron (within 30 minutes prior to completing the surgery) is significantly more effective in the prevention of late PONV than when administered prior to the induction of anesthesia.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical Trial
Effect of right atrial pacing, intravenous amiodarone and beta blockers for suppression of atrial fibrillation after coronary artery bypass surgery: a pilot study.
This pilot study aimed to compare right atrial pacing, intravenous amiodarone and oral beta-blockers in the prevention, time to onset, duration and effect on hospital stay of postoperative atrial fibrillation (AF) after coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG) at our center. ⋯ This pilot study showed a trend in favor of atrial pacing versus intravenous amiodarone or beta-blockers in the prevention of postoperative AF after CABG in our center. Randomization of a larger patient sample would be required in order to ascertain the true value of the observed trend.
