Case Reports[Cauda equina syndrome caused by Tarlov's cysts--case report].
Perineural Tarlov cysts located on lumbo-sacral roots can be a cause of cauda equina syndrome. ⋯ Multiple perineural Tarlov cysts in lumbo-sacral region, without disc herniation or other cause of vertebral canal stenosis, can produce cauda equina syndrome.

Gene therapy is a new therapeutic method which uses molecular biology techniques to modulate expression of genes involved in disease pathogenesis. Gene therapy has evolved rapidly in the last ten years. ⋯ DNA vaccination is also used in clinical trials. It seems that gene therapy will become soon the alternative method of treatment of those neurological diseases where current methods of treatment are not effective.

[Dynamics of cerebral circulation on the basis of transcranial Doppler ultrasonography evaluation in patients with moderate and minor head injury].
Patients with moderate and minor head injury were evaluated with transcranial Doppler ultrasonography (TCD) and the relationship was studied between traumatic vasospasm (TVSP) and hyperaemia and the patients' age, clinical state, head CT examination and long-term results of treatment. The group examined consisted of 45 patients. ⋯ TVSP was observed in about 20% while hyperaemia occurred in 25% of the cases. Traumatic vasospasm in transcranial Doppler ultrasonography was found to occur most often in the group of patients with subdural or intracerebral haematomas.

Clinical Trial Controlled Clinical Trial[Determination of melatonin concentrations in patients with consciousness disturbances after craniocerebral trauma. Preliminary communication].
The study was performed in cooperation of the Department of Neurotraumatology and the Department of Clinical Biochemistry Jagiellonian University in Cracow. In patients with central nervous system injury, diagnosed upon computerized tomography scan, melatonin levels were measured. The most frequent reason of damage was severe craniocerebral trauma. ⋯ The investigation could not demonstrate any correlations between consciousness disturbances after head injury and serum melatonin levels in the morning. To draw a final conclusion further experiments are necessary. They will help to explain the role of endogenous melatonin in patients after craniocerebral injury.

Case Reports[Spontaneous intracranial epidural accumulation of air in a patient with excessive skull pneumatization].
We report a rare case of spontaneous epidural accumulation of air in the occipital region resulting from an unusual hyperpneumatization of the cranium in a 37-year-old miner. For suspected subarachnoid haemorrhage the patient was admitted to neurological department. ⋯ To the authors knowledge, so much pneumatization of the cranium seems to be very rare and when present, however, can cause spontaneous pneumocephalus. Based on the two years follow-up of this patient, conservative therapy showed to be sufficient for him, despite this, we have suggested him periodically perform CT of the head.
