Severity of knee pain does not predict a better response to an antiinflammatory dose of ibuprofen than to analgesic therapy in patients with osteoarthritis.
To determine whether greater pain intensity at initiation of treatment predicted better response to ibuprofen than to acetaminophen in subjects with knee osteoarthritis (OA). ⋯ Our data suggest that acetaminophen and ibuprofen are comparably effective in treating knee OA pain, even when the pain is severe.

Coping, pain, and disability in osteoarthritis: a longitudinal study.
To establish the role of coping styles as prospective determinants of pain and disability in patients with osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee or hip. ⋯ The role of resting as a prospective determinant of disability, as reported in patients with other chronic disorders, could also be established for knee OA, but not hip OA. Transforming pain was found to be a risk factor for pain in knee OA.

To assess whether breast implant rupture or extracapsular silicone are associated with selected symptoms of self-reported physician-diagnosed connective tissue disease (CTD). ⋯ These data suggest an association between extracapsular silicone from ruptured silicone breast implants and FM. If this association persists in other studies, women with silicone gel breast implants should be informed of the potential risk of developing fibromyalgia if their breast implants rupture and the silicone gel escapes the fibrous scar capsule.

To compare reactions to cold pressor pain and pain coping strategies of patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), healthy children, and their parents. ⋯ The results indicate that JIA patients may differ from healthy children with regard to their responses to experimental pain as well as to their use of pain coping strategies. Pain coping strategies of JIA patients were associated with pain coping strategies of their parents, and use of pain coping strategies was associated with both experimental and clinical pain experience.
