Peritoneal tuberculosis and carcinomatosis are the most frequent etiologies of exsudative ascitis and require rapid diagnosis and treatment. The purpose of this study has been to evaluate the predictive value of clinical and complementary data for the etiologic diagnosis of exsudative ascites and to assess the results of laparoscopic surgery. ⋯ Etiological diagnosis of exsudative ascitis remains difficult to establish. Peritoneal biopsies under videolaparoscopy are currently the "gold standard" for diagnosis.

[Development of a myasthenia crisis during interferon treatment for chronic C hepatitis].
If myasthenia gravis is not a usual complication of interferon therapy, several cases have been described with the use of theses molecules in the treatment of hepatitis C, cancer or multiple sclerosis. We report a new case of serious myasthenia gravis during interferon alpha and ribavirin therapy for hepatitis C.

Patient information for liver biopsy: impact of a video movie.
The information given to patients before a medical procedure is usually delivered verbally and in the form of a written document. Viewing a video movie about the procedure might be helpful in improving the quality of patient information and thus contributed to reduce patient anxiety. The aim of this prospective study on the methods used to deliver information to patients scheduled for liver biopsy was to determine, in comparison with standard information delivery, the impact on anxiety and understanding of additional information provided by a video movie. ⋯ The patients understood and were well satisfied with the information received about liver biopsy. Complementary information in the form of a video movie had no effect on patient anxiety.

In patients with cirrhosis and enterostomy, although bleeding stomal varices are rare, they can been severe and difficult to be treat. We report the first two cases of bleeding stomal varices treated by cyanoacrylate embolization, in patients with cirrhosis and colostomy. In each case, after pharmacological treatment of portal hypertension (propranolol) failed, embolization of the stomal varices by transdermal injection of biological glue effectively stopped the bleeding, without recurrence or side effects, after 8 and 16 months of follow-up. The embolization of stomal varices by biological glue is a safe, easy and efficient treatment for bleeding stomal varices.

Colorectal serrated polyps are heterogeneous epithelial lesions characterized by a serrated architecture. They include the classical hyperplastic polyps and the much rarer serrated adenomas and mixed polyps. Whereas serrated adenomas are composed of an unequivocal adenomatous epithelium with architectural serrated, mixed polyps include two separate hyperplastic and adenomatous components. ⋯ Despite their close resemblance to traditional hyperplastic polyps, some authors argued that they should be regarded as authentically neoplastic lesions and have proposed to call them "sessile serrated adenomas". Their malignant potential requires their removal when discovered during colonoscopy. This article reviews the histological features, the endoscopic appearance, the natural history and the molecular phenotype of the different categories of serrated polyps and introduces the concept of "serrated neoplastic pathway" in the development of colorectal cancer.
