Causes of Colectomy in Patients with Ulcerative Colitis: Findings from an Iranian National Registry.
Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a form of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) marked by rectal and colon inflammation, leading to relapsing symptoms. Its prevalence is increasing, particularly in developed nations, impacting patients' health. While its exact cause remains unclear, genetic and environmental factors are implicated, elevating the risk of colorectal cancer (CRC). Colectomy, though declining, is still performed in select UC cases, necessitating further study. ⋯ Age plays a crucial role in dysplasia risk among UC patients undergoing colectomy. Older age at diagnosis and surgery may indicate a higher risk of dysplasia and CRC. Clinicians should consider age when managing UC patients and implementing screening protocols. Further research with larger samples is needed to confirm these findings.

Effects of World War II on Infectious Diseases in the Persian Gulf.
With the allied invasion, the southern half of Iran became the scene of a large presence of British and American occupation forces. The negative consequences of the styling of foreign elements during all the years of war and even afterward affected these areas in various dimensions of their health. ⋯ The research with an analytical-historical method relies on the library method and is based on the study of the data of unpublished documents from the archives of the National Archives and Library Organization, medical and economic social publications, and various local and public newspapers of Iran during this period. The study of documents and publications shows that due to Allied restrictive policies and successive waves of famine and widespread malnutrition, epidemic diseases, and drug monopoly, these areas experienced a period of severe decline in public health and spread of various infectious diseases.

Effectiveness of the Green Heart Smartphone Application as a Self-Management Intervention for Hypertension and Dyslipidemia: A Randomized Clinical Trial.
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a major global health concern, the leading cause of death and disability. Thus, preventive interventions targeting modifiable risk factors are essential. Mobile-health technologies have emerged as promising tools for improving prevention by modifying risk factors. We created the "Green Heart" mobile app to help coronary artery disease (CAD) patients control their risk factors. The app has three modules: smoking cessation, dyslipidemia (DLP) control, and blood pressure (BP) management. This study evaluated the app's performance in monitoring hypertension (HTN) and DLP among known CAD cases. ⋯ We found that using the Green Heart app in the self-monitoring setting significantly improved BP and DLP management across the study population.

On a global scale, approximately 350 million are affected by hepatitis B, and 71 million by hepatitis C. People in custody face elevated risks for these infections. The prevalence and risk factors in Iranian prisons are insufficiently documented. The principal objective of this study was to ascertain the prevalence of hepatitis B and C, coupled with the identification of pertinent influencing factors, within the confines of Zahedan central prison, situated in the southeastern region of Iran. ⋯ The prevalence of hepatitis B and C was higher among people in custody in Zahedan central prison. Consequently, targeted interventions are vital to address and reduce viral hepatitis burden in custodial settings.
