Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a chronic inflammatory disease associated with higher risk of cardiovascular events and metabolic syndrome than psoriasis without arthritis. Fatty acids (FA) play an important role as signaling molecules in inflammatory and metabolic pathways. The aim of the study was to evaluate serum FA concentration in patients with PsA and to investigate the correlations of FA with the clinical and biochemical markers. ⋯ Our findings indicate a changed FA profile both in psoriasis and PsA and reflect metabolic status that may predispose to the development of metabolic syndrome.

The aim of the study was to assess the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori (HP) in children with celiac disease (CD) and its relationship with clinical, histopathological, and laboratory parameters. ⋯ The prevalence of HP was not increased in cases of CD. The CD was diagnosed later in HP (+) cases, distension and diarrhea complaints were more frequent, and folate deficiency was significant.

Due to the mild-to-moderate iodine deficiency in Poland, in 1997 iodine prophylaxis based on obligatory salt iodization was introduced. We attempted to evaluate the effectiveness of such prophylaxis, based on over 20 years of observations of iodine supply in school-aged children in Opoczno district (Central Poland). ⋯ Iodine prophylaxis has proved effective in eliminating iodine deficiency. In recent years, the diversification of iodine sources, despite the reduction of salt consumption, has led to an increase in median UIC to values close to the upper limit of UIC, accepted as normal. Further increase in iodine supply may be unfavourable for health; therefore constant monitoring of iodine prophylaxis is required.

Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) is characterized by a worse prognosis than other breast cancer subtypes. TNBC is defined by lack of expression of estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2. The aim of this analysis was to evaluate the relationship between immunohistochemical expression of novel prognostic markers (erythropoietin (EPO) and erythropoietin receptor (EPO-R)) and clinicopathological features of TNBC and non-TNBC patients. ⋯ The relationship between the expression of EPO-R and histological malignancy grade in triple negative breast cancer, suggests that the present EPO-R expression in TNBC may constitute an additional prognostic factor.

Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is a kind of malignant brain tumor prevalent in adults, with the characteristics well adapted to poorly immunogenic and hypoxic conditions. Effective treatment of GBM is impeded due to the high proliferation, migration and invasion of GBM cells. GBM cells migrate by degrading the extracellular matrix, so it is difficult to have GBM cells eradicated completely by surgery. This study aims to confirm that miR-431-5p could influence the proliferation, invasion and migration of human glioblastoma multiforme cells by targeting EPB41L1 (erythrocyte membrane protein band 4.1). ⋯ MiR-431-5p facilitated the progression of GBM by inhibiting EPB41L1 expression.
