The outcome of patients ≥ 60 years of age after alcohol septal ablation (ASA) for obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) remains unresolved. We sought to determine the long-term survival and the causes of death in this population. ⋯ Alcohol septal ablation was safe and effective in the long-term follow-up. We observed a reduced life expectancy compared to the age- and sex-matched general population. Mortality was almost equally due to cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular causes of death.

We verify whether finasteride had a transgenerational effect on the epididymal expression of antioxidant enzymes, and the correlation between these enzymes and blood androgen concentrations in male offspring (F1:Fin) of females fertilized by finasteride-treated male rats. ⋯ Finasteride treatment of adult male rats may cause changes in antioxidant defense system in the epididymis of their offspring, leading to improper ROS concentrations that can affect post-testicular sperm maturation.

To date, the Foot Health Status Questionnaire (FHSQ) has not been applied to women who suffer from fibromyalgia. The main purpose of this study was to compare both foot and general health-related quality of life between women with fibromyalgia and healthy matched women. We hypothesized that women with fibromyalgia may present an impaired quality of life related to foot and general health. ⋯ Impaired foot and general health-related quality of life was observed in women who suffered from fibromyalgia compared to healthy matched women.

Inhibition of proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin 9 (PCSK9) is an effective therapeutic tool for lowering low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). There is no available evidence on the efficacy and safety of PCSK9 inhibitors in non-cardiovascular diseases, particularly cancer. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of PCSK9 inhibition on cancer endpoints in mice bearing colon carcinoma, using a nanoliposomal antiPCSK9 vaccine. ⋯ Our results revealed that PCSK9 inhibition not only exerted no harmful effects but also could moderately inhibit tumor growth, and improve lifespan and survival in mice bearing colon cancer.
