In vitro fertilization (IVF) singletons have a worse perinatal outcome than spontaneously conceived singletons, especially in terms of preterm birth and its complications. ⋯ The IVF singleton pregnancies have an increased risk of adverse perinatal outcome, among which prematurity remains the greatest problem. Therefore, they should be managed as high risk not only due to psychological reasons.

Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a seronegative arthropathy with many clinical manifestations, and it may affect nearly a half of patients with psoriasis. PsA should be diagnosed as early as possible to slow down joint damage and progression of disability. To improve the diagnosis of PsA, physicians should look for peripheral inflammatory pain, axial inflammatory pain, dactylitis, and buttock and sciatic pain. ⋯ However, when pharmacological treatment fails, patients with PsA may benefit from orthopedic surgery, which can improve both joint function and quality of life. Total hip arthroplasty, total knee arthroplasty, and arthroscopic synovectomy of the knee are the most common surgical procedures offered to patients with PsA. The management of PsA requires the care of a multidisciplinary team, which should include dermatologists, rheumatologists, physiotherapists, and orthopedic surgeons.

Post-operative infections in patients undergoing living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) are a major cause of morbidity and mortality. This study aims to develop a practical and efficient prognostic index for early identification and possible prediction of post-transplant infections using risk factors identified by multivariate analysis. ⋯ The use of a combined risk index for early diagnosis of post-operative infections can efficiently identify high risk patients.

The aim of our study was to determine the relationship between neuropeptide B (NPB), neuropeptide W (NPW), nutritional and antioxidant status and selected fat- and bone-derived factors in type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) treated using pens (T1DM pen group) or insulin pumps (T1DM pump group) in order to investigate the potential role of NPB and NPW in the clinical outcomes of T1DM. ⋯ Measurements of NPB and NPW, besides leptin and adiponectin, are worth considering in the detailed prognosis of nutritional status in T1DM, primarily in the T1DM pen-treated population.

Immune system activation, microvascular abnormalities and extracellular matrix deposition in tissues play roles in systemic sclerosis (SSc). Th17 cells producing interleukin (IL)-17 are involved in the pathogenesis of many autoimmune-mediated inflammatory diseases; however, the role of IL-17 in SSc remains unclear. ⋯ Increased synthesis of IL-17B, IL-17E and IL-17F appears to play a role in the pathogenesis of SSc, in contrast to IL-17A. Higher levels of IL-17B and IL-17E are associated with the development of both lSSc and dSSc, whereas IL-17F is associated with lSSc only. Further studies are needed to elucidate their role in the pathogenesis of the disease.
