The differences in protein expression of calcium sensitive receptor (CaSR) and claudin-14 in a kidney stone model established by nanobacteria (NB) and ethylene glycol (EG) were compared. ⋯ Our results indicate that the traditional EG kidney stone modeling method is more rapid than the NB kidney stone modeling method, with a high stone formation rate, and the CaSR and claudin-14 protein expression levels are higher. Meanwhile, the NB used to establish the kidney stone model was isolated from patients with kidney stones, which may imitate the process of natural formation of kidney stones of patients. Therefore, the results of our research are more conducive to related research on the etiology of stones.

The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate long-term outcomes in differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) patients postoperatively treated with distinct RAI activities of 30 mCi, 60 mCi, and 100 mCi. ⋯ RAI activity of 30 mCi demonstrates a comparable efficacy as 60 mCi and 100 mCi in low-risk DTC. RAI activity of 60 mCi seems to be effective in intermediate-risk DTC.

Identifying SARS-CoV-2 patients at higher risk of mortality is crucial in the management of a pandemic. Artificial intelligence techniques allow one to analyze large amounts of data to find hidden patterns. We aimed to develop and validate a mortality score at admission for COVID-19 based on high-level machine learning. ⋯ Machine learning techniques were applied in order to develop an accurate in-hospital mortality risk score for COVID-19 based on ten variables. The application of the proposed score has utility in clinical settings to guide the management and prognostication of COVID-19 patients.

Medullary breast cancer (MdBC) is an uncommon type of breast cancer representing 1-7% of all cases. It is characterized by the occurrence of many histopathological features associated with a high grade of malignancy. ⋯ MdBC presented at a younger age than IDC, had a higher histological grade, larger median size and less frequent regional lymph node involvement. Most MdBCs were triple-negative, whereas IDCs were predominantly luminal. Despite numerous aggressive pathological features of MdBC, its clinical outcome and overall prognosis are favorable.
