We aimed to characterize biochemical and cardiovascular predictors of the paediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome temporally associated with SARS-CoV-2 (PIMS-TS) risk based on the data from the LATE-COVID-Kids study. ⋯ It is the first data on the possible predictors of PIMS-TS risk in the Long-COVID period. These results need to be further validated to next create the PIMS SCORE algorithm, which might enable the effective prediction of children with the risk of PIMS-TS occurrence after COVID-19 recovery.

Interferon (IFN)-β is known as an environmental trigger for the occurrence of autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD). However, the association of another type-1 IFN, IFN-β, with AITD is unknown. ⋯ Serum IFN-β levels were lower in HT patients. Correlations of serum IFN-β with TSHRAb and BAFF levels were found to be gender-specific. Further well-designed studies with larger sample sizes are required to confirm our findings.

In the present study, we aimed to examine the effects of the administration of whey protein through rectal enema to rats with acetic acid-induced ulcerative colitis on the pathways of nuclear-related factor-2 (Nrf-2), haem oxygenase-1 (HO-1), nuclear factor κB (NF-κB), active protein kinase-1 (AP-1), tumour necrotising factor-α (TNF-α), and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), IL-6, IL-10. ⋯ Whey protein modulates Nrf2/HO-1 and NF-kB pathways, thereby creating a therapeutic effect against colonic inflammation induced by acetic acid (AA) due to its anti-inflammatory effects.

MicroRNA-125b has been found to be down-regulated in many types of malignant tumours and diseases with excessive proliferation of keratinocytes, such as cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma and psoriasis. Cholesteatoma, which is mainly composed of keratinocytes, also has characteristics of abnormal proliferation similar to a malignant tumour. However, the expression and regulatory mechanisms of miR-125b and its downstream genes in cholesteatoma have not been clarified. ⋯ The results of this study demonstrate that miR-125b can influence the growth of cholesteatoma by targeting STAT3 and its downstream genes, including cyclin D1, survivin, and VEGF, thus providing an opportunity to establish new medical therapy strategies and facilitating further study of the pathogenesis of cholesteatoma.

the aim of the study was to investigate the contribution of TERT rs2736100 and rs2853669 gene polymorphisms in defining the genetic predisposition to acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), their association with different prognostic markers, and their impact on survival, outcome, and the prognosis of affected patients. Also, we investigated the association of TERT SNPs in AML in the presence or absence of DNMT3A (R882), NPM1, and FLT3 mutations. ⋯ TERT rs2853669 and rs2736100 polymorphisms were not risk factors for developing AML in the Romanian population, but the TERT rs2853669 variant genotype had a negative effect on AML patients' overall survival in the presence of other known prognostic factors.
