Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common degenerative joint disease, and its aetiology is not entirely known. The aim of the study was to evaluate the involvement of interleukin-18 (IL-18) and interleukin-20 (IL-20) in the pathogenesis of knee OA and their correlations with other markers of inflammation and destruction of joint cartilage, as well as clinical and radiological changes. ⋯ The analysis of ROC curves showed that IL-20 as well as COMP, MMP-3, and YKL-40 may be diagnostic markers of knee OA. The observations indicate that IL-18 potentially mediates mainly in intra-articular processes and IL-20 could be primarily responsible for the systemic inflammatory reaction.

We aimed to characterize biochemical and cardiovascular predictors of the paediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome temporally associated with SARS-CoV-2 (PIMS-TS) risk based on the data from the LATE-COVID-Kids study. ⋯ It is the first data on the possible predictors of PIMS-TS risk in the Long-COVID period. These results need to be further validated to next create the PIMS SCORE algorithm, which might enable the effective prediction of children with the risk of PIMS-TS occurrence after COVID-19 recovery.

the aim of the study was to investigate the contribution of TERT rs2736100 and rs2853669 gene polymorphisms in defining the genetic predisposition to acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), their association with different prognostic markers, and their impact on survival, outcome, and the prognosis of affected patients. Also, we investigated the association of TERT SNPs in AML in the presence or absence of DNMT3A (R882), NPM1, and FLT3 mutations. ⋯ TERT rs2853669 and rs2736100 polymorphisms were not risk factors for developing AML in the Romanian population, but the TERT rs2853669 variant genotype had a negative effect on AML patients' overall survival in the presence of other known prognostic factors.

Recently published case reports suggest the benefit of empagliflozin use in subjects with glycogen storage disease Ib (GSD Ib). ⋯ Empagliflozin may be a new safe treatment in GSD Ib patients with an advanced stage of the disease.

The present study aimed to determine whether the presence of cardiac hypertrophy due to arterial hypertension is associated with a change in the activity of the oxytocinergic system in cardiomyocytes. ⋯ The presence of arterial hypertension is associated with increased activity of the oxytocinergic system in the heart, especially in the area of the left ventricle. These findings support the important role of this system in the maintenance of cardiovascular homeostasis.
