Apolipoprotein complement is a critical determinant of lipoprotein function and metabolism. The relation between exogenous insulin and apolipoproteins (apos) in newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) has not yet been studied extensively. The aim of this study was to prospectively observe the changes in serum apos AI (apo AI) and AII (apo AII) in patients with newly diagnosed T1DM and their association with the daily insulin requirement. ⋯ In the first year of T1DM, there is a significant increase in apos concentration. Due to the significant deviation of apos concentration from accepted norms, changes in the recommendations of lipid control criteria in T1DM may be considered.

Children with sickle cell disease (SCD) can present a variety of clinical symptoms that may affect their sleep and health-related quality of life (HRQOL). This study aims to investigate the relation between sleep problems and HRQOL in children and adolescents with SCD. ⋯ Sleep problems in SCD children appear to be negatively linked with HRQOL. Disease severity and sleep problems may be predictors of overall HRQOL in children and adolescents with SCD.

In the past few years, treatment of multiple myeloma has undergone a deep change for the employment of novel treatment comprising proteasome inhibitors. Bortezomib is a first-line drug in therapy of multiple myeloma. The onset of peripheral neuropathy is a dose-limiting collateral effect of the drug. This neuropathy is a distal symmetric neuropathy that affects both large and small fibers. Nerve conduction study (NCS) can be used for the diagnosis of bortezomib neuropathy, but this technique demonstrates alterations of the large nerve fibers. Sudoscan is a novel technique utilized to offer an evaluation of sudomotor function. The main objective of this study was to compare the sensitivity and diagnostic specificity of Sudoscan with respect to the nerve conduction study after bortezomib treatment. ⋯ Our results suggest that Sudoscan can be considered for the diagnosis of bortezomib-induced neuropathy. It is objective, reproducible, and surely easier than the traditional nerve conduction study. Sudoscan may be a useful help to manage the therapeutic interventions in multiple myeloma.

Ultrasonographic estimation of fetal weight (EFW) is a standard obstetrical procedure in daily clinical practice. Formulas for calculating EFW most commonly are a combination of two-dimensional measurements. A relatively new approach is the use of three-dimensional measurements such as fractional thigh volume (TVol) incorporated into specific regression equations. The objective of this study was to compare the Lee formula based on three-dimensional ultrasonographic TVol in the estimation of fetal weight before delivery in term pregnancies to the Hadlock I formula. ⋯ Thigh volume measurement incorporated into the Lee single parameter formula is comparable to the Hadlock I formula in terms of accuracy in predicting fetal weight before delivery. There was no significant difference in the time needed for taking necessary measurements between the two groups.

Cervical cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors in women, which seriously affects women's health, especially in developing countries. This study aims to investigate novel molecular markers for poor prognosis of cervical cancer to achieve correct guidance of clinical treatment, accurate assessment of prognosis, and provide a new basis for the choice of reasonable treatment options for cervical cancer patients. ⋯ Our results indicated that lncRNA TP73-AS1 was up-regulated in cervical cancer tissues and cell lines, predicting poor prognosis of cervical cancer and regulating cell proliferation and migration.
