This clinical trial tested the use of the TENA SmartCare Change Indicator in a homecare environment. ⋯ Use of the device led to a reduction in the numbers of manual checks and leakages. The device appears to be safe, well tolerated and easy to use.

Trehalose is a naturally occurring disaccharide of 2 glucose molecules, which has been suggested as a potential therapeutic agent to reduce blood glucose and ameliorate diabetes-related complications in type 2 diabetes (T2D). This study aimed to determine the efficacy of medium-term trehalose treatment in patients with T2D. ⋯ 12 weeks of treatment with 3.3 g/day of oral trehalose significantly improves CRP as a marker of inflammation, with potential favourable effects on quality of life, depression, and stress levels, but overall glycaemic control and pro-oxidant-antioxidant balance were unaltered during this time frame.

Standard markers of glycaemic control, such as glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) and self-measurement of blood glucose (SMBG), have proven insufficient. HbA1c is an averaged measurement that does not give information about glucose variability. SMBG provides limited, intermittent blood glucose (BG) values over the day and is associated with poor compliance because of the invasiveness of the method and social discomfort. ⋯ The immediate benefits of CGM include prevention of hypoglycaemia or hyperglycaemia, and automated analysis of long-term glycaemic data enables reliable treatment adjustments. This review describes the principles of CGM and how CGM data have changed diabetes treatment standards by introducing new glycaemic control parameters. It also compares different CGM devices and examines how the convenience of sharing CGM data in telehealth applies to the current coronavirus-19 pandemic.

Obesity has emerged as one of the major risk factors of severe morbidity and cause-specific mortality among severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infected individuals. Patients with obesity also have overlapping cardiovascular diseases and diabetes, which make them increasingly vulnerable. This novel ecological study examines the impact of obesity and/or body mass index (BMI) on rates of population-adjusted cases and deaths due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). ⋯ We anticipate, in light of our findings, that appropriate targeted public health approaches or campaigns could be developed to minimize the risk and cause-specific morbidity burden due to COVID-19 in countries with nationwide obesity rates of 20-30%.

The work was designed to investigate the effect of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) on hypertension in obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) patients and to elucidate the underlying mechanisms. ⋯ CPAP has a significant antihypertensive effect on OSAHS patients, especially nocturnal hypertension, possibly by counteracting inflammation and oxidative stress.
