The work was designed to investigate the effect of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) on hypertension in obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) patients and to elucidate the underlying mechanisms. ⋯ CPAP has a significant antihypertensive effect on OSAHS patients, especially nocturnal hypertension, possibly by counteracting inflammation and oxidative stress.

This study aimed to investigate the potential role of moxibustion (MOX) in the treatment of lung infection in patients bed-ridden due to osteoporotic fracture of the spine. ⋯ Moxibustion significantly alleviated the inflammatory responses, thus leading to a better survival rate of patients bed-ridden due to osteoporotic fracture of the spine.

Trehalose is a naturally occurring disaccharide of 2 glucose molecules, which has been suggested as a potential therapeutic agent to reduce blood glucose and ameliorate diabetes-related complications in type 2 diabetes (T2D). This study aimed to determine the efficacy of medium-term trehalose treatment in patients with T2D. ⋯ 12 weeks of treatment with 3.3 g/day of oral trehalose significantly improves CRP as a marker of inflammation, with potential favourable effects on quality of life, depression, and stress levels, but overall glycaemic control and pro-oxidant-antioxidant balance were unaltered during this time frame.

This study aimed to investigate the outcome of hybrid endovenous laser ablation (EVLA, 1470 nm) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) procedures for varicose veins (VVs). ⋯ The hybrid EVLA (1470 nm) procedure reduces VV recurrence below the knee and results in better quality-of-life scores.

Anti-coagulant unfractionated heparin of low molecular weight (ACUHlmw) therapy is popularly practised in the therapy of recurrent miscarriages (RMC) due to its anti-coagulant properties. However, several in vitro investigations have hypothesized about the possible immunological effects of ACUHlmw. ⋯ A positive outcome of ACUHlmw therapy in vivo was observed, thus establishing its potential proinflammatory effect. During 2nd and 3rd trimesters, the observed harmonious enlargement in Th1/Th17 related chemokine and cytokine levels does not recommend a fruitful immunological impact of ACUHlmw therapy in vivo.
