Our study aims to observe the effect of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in lowering amyloid accumulation and ryanodine receptor 3 (RYR3) gene expression, further improving cognitive dysfunction in Alzheimer's disease (AD). ⋯ MSCs improved amyloid accumulation, Y-maze scores, and RYR3 expression in the AD animal model.

To examine the anti-cancer effects of berberine on multiple cancer cell lines, and to clarify the underlying molecular mechanisms. ⋯ Berberine exhibited cytotoxic effects on multiple cancer cell lines by inducing apoptosis and cell cycle arrest. The BCL-2/BAX signaling pathway may be the common pathway underlying the anti-tumor effect of berberine. The findings support the notion that berberine is a dietary compound that can be further developed into a drug candidate for cancer treatment.

To determine the impact of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in MTHFR and MTRR genes on disease activity and the presence of MTX therapy adverse events in Polish children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). ⋯ MTHFR rs1801133 and MTRR rs1801394 polymorphisms are associated with higher disease activity at the moment of JIA diagnosis.

Oxidative stress is one of many factors suspected to promote antinuclear autoantibody (ANA) formation. Reactive oxygen species can induce changes in the antigenic structure of macromolecules, causing the immune system to treat them as "neo-antigens" and start production of autoantibodies. This study was designed to evaluate the relationship between oxidative stress markers, lifestyle factors and the detection of ANA. ⋯ The results indicate that local oxidative stress may be associated with increased probability of ANA formation in a sex-specific manner.

Circulating microRNAs (miRNAs) are widely identified as promising and novel biomarkers for the diagnosis of human diseases. This study investigated the clinical value of miR-532-5p for asymptomatic carotid artery stenosis (CAS) patients and detected its predictive value for the occurrence of future cerebral ischaemic events (CIE). ⋯ The study suggests the potential clinical value of miR-532-5p for the early diagnosis of asymptomatic CAS patients. MiR-532-5p might have predictive value for the risk of future CIE in asymptomatic CAS patients.
