Despite therapy, patients operated using a cardiopulmonary bypass demonstrate increased platelet aggregation, which rebounds to above preoperative levels. The aim of the study was to test the interaction between platelet reactivity/activation and selected inflammatory markers in the post-operative period. ⋯ Inflammatory parameters CRP and TNF-α are strongly associated with platelet reactivity (expressed as PRS) in cardiopulmonary bypass graft patients. Platelet hyperreactivity in the early post-operative period combined with a systemic inflammatory state correlates with a higher risk of post-operative rhythm disturbances and myocardial infarction.

The aim of the study was to examine the burden of uterine fibroids at global, regional and national levels in terms of age and the Socio-demographic Index (SDI). ⋯ Globally, the age-standardized incidence of uterine fibroids has been increasing in recent years. In contrast, age-standardized DALY rates have exhibited a decreasing trend. Eastern Europe, Tropical Latin America, Brazil and India experience the greatest uterine fibroid burden. Globally, women aged 35-39 years and older have an increased risk of uterine fibroids, as reflected in the higher incidence rates among these age groups.

The primary goal of psoriasis treatment is to reduce the inflammatory response and associated complications. In severe cases of psoriasis that are resistant to local treatment (e.g., keratolytic preparations) and at least two types of general treatment methods (e.g., retinoids and cyclosporine A), biological therapy is used. This study aimed to assess the systemic effects of adalimumab at a given stage of treatment in patients with psoriatic arthritis and evaluate how the drug can improve the clinical condition of the patients. ⋯ We found that adalimumab affects apoptosis, which is crucial in the development and course of psoriasis. The differential gene expression in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of patients with psoriatic arthritis indicated the potential systemic effects of adalimumab therapy. The analyses of dermatological (the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index, body surface area and Dermatology Life Quality Index) and inflammatory (Biernacki's reaction) parameters revealed the effectiveness of the therapy.

We evaluated whether 12-week intake of molecular hydrogen (H2) in 5 overweight adults (3 women; age: 50.2 ±11.9 years, body mass index: 29.4 ±2.1 kg/m2) affects brain levels of the glutamate-glutamine-GABA cycle, critical amino acid neurotransmitters in the mechanism of neuronal activation during appetite regulation. ⋯ We showed a possible hydrogen-driven upregulation of neurotransmitters involved in appetite stimulation leading to hunger suppression and weight loss. Further studies analyzing appetite-controlling metabolic pathways affected by H2 would require monitoring of additional biomarkers of satiation and satiety during different feeding regimens.

The aim of this prospective trial was to evaluate the ovarian reserve with anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), which is the best predictor of ovarian reserve, and perform histological analysis after exposure to cisplatin with a GnRH agonist or antagonist. ⋯ This is the first prospective randomized controlled study showing the protective effects of GnRH agonist and antagonist on ovarian reserve after cisplatin exposure in an animal model.
