Spinal cord injury (SCI) alters the integrity of the spinal cord, which leads to loss of multiple organs' function including locomotor function. The present study evaluates the protective effect of tabersonine against SCI. ⋯ Data of the investigation suggest that tabersonine protects against spinal cord injury by activating CREB and reducing NLRP3/Notch signaling.

Recent studies have proved the diverse roles of miRs in different cancer-related processes. This study was undertaken to determine the therapeutic implications of miR-325-3p in breast cancer. ⋯ Taken together, the evidence shows that miR-325 acts as a tumor suppressor in breast cancer and may be used in the treatment of breast cancer.

The successful introduction of immune checkpoint blockade approaches to renal-cell carcinoma (RCC) treatment indicates the importance of molecules regulating the T cell response to RCC risk and progression. ⋯ Our results indicate for the first time that genetic variation within the gene encoding BTLA is significantly associated with overall survival in clear cell renal cell carcinoma patients.

In the following study we describe the diagnostic process and further case analysis of a 30-year-old woman admitted with typical COVID-19 symptoms, who subsequently developed additional symptoms suggesting cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with sub-cortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL). ⋯ It seems therefore that the new variant of NOTCH3 is of de novo origin in the patient's genome. Additionally, the relatively early onset of CADASIL and the unexpectedly severe COVID-19 infection suggest that the two occurred simultaneously: the infection with SARS-CoV-2 accelerated development of CADASIL symptoms and the unusual variant of the NOTCH3 gene contributed to the more severe course of COVID-19.

Multiple studies suggest that cancer leads to activation of clotting and fibrinolysis pathways, elevating the risk of thromboembolic events. Kidney cancer is often complicated by clotting disorders. In this study, we hypothesized that preoperative clotting and fibrinolysis parameters are altered in healthy volunteers and kidney tumor patients. We also hypothesized that these differences may be associated with survival in patients who have undergone operations due to kidney tumors. ⋯ In patients with kidney tumors, multiple clotting and fibrinolysis parameters are significantly altered. Routine pre-operative measures should include determination of fibrinogen and D-dimer concentrations as these markers aid in prediction of survival probability.
