Atrophic gastritis and intestinal metaplasia are precursor lesions of gastric cancer. The aim of this study was to determine the usefulness of the biomarkers pepsinogen I(PgI), pepsinogen II (PgII), gastrin-17, and H. pylori antibodies in the identification of precursor lesions. ⋯ In the Western Mexican population, precursor lesions (AG, IM) are common in adults (45%) with dyspepsia but infrequent in children (8%). H. pylori infection was detected in 41.3% of adults and 16.0% of children. Of the studied biomarkers, a PgI/PgII ratio < 3 was an important risk factor for precursor lesions such as AG or IM in our population, with an OR of 9.171 (95% CI: 1.723-48.799, p = 0.009).

This study aimed to investigate the effect of nurse-led multidisciplinary cooperation in the early screening and protection of fecal water dermatitis in hospitalized patients with enterostomy. ⋯ Nurse-led multidisciplinary cooperation can improve early screening and protection of fecal water dermatitis in hospitalized patients with enterostomy and improve the quality of life of patients.

Avascular necrosis of the femoral head (ANFH) is one of the most complicated bone disorders; management remains challenging. We evaluated the effect of lncRNA-MALAT1 suppression on ANFH rats. ⋯ LncRNA-MALAT1 suppression attenuated dexamethasone-induced femoral head necrosis by regulating AMPK/mTOR/Beclin-1 signaling.

There are epidemiological - not necessary causal - observations that link perinatal paracetamol (acetaminophen) exposure to impaired neuro-cognition and behaviour, but animal models may assist to better understand the mechanisms. ⋯ Models should further integrate clinical indications, as non-exposure is the obvious safest setting in the absence of an indication. Besides pain and fever and related to the cannabinoid hypothesis, this should include perinatal brain injury, as there is animal experimental evidence that cannabinoids are neuroprotective in newborn brain injury or asphyxia, further supported by evidence from non-perinatal models of paracetamol-related neuroprotective effects.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is an inflammatory disorder of synovial joints which is mainly treated with therapeutic agents showing side effects associated with the gastrointestinal (GI) and metabolic system. Consequently, there is urgent need for a potent, safe and novel agent for treating OA and related disorders. Enoxolone is a pentacyclic triterpenoid obtained from the herb liquorice. Based on earlier findings, we postulated that enoxolone may produce chondroprotective activity by exerting anti-inflammatory, anti-catabolic and oxidative stress-decreasing effects. ⋯ Our findings demonstrate that enoxolone could suppress inflammatory signaling and apoptosis via the ERK1/2 pathway in chondrocytes.
