The present study aimed to clarify the underlying mechanism of metformin (met) in the management of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and to explore the role of the UCA1/microRNA-18a signaling pathway in the control of PCOS. ⋯ In the management of PCOS, the irisin-lowering effect of met is regulated by the UCA1/miR-18a/RhoB signaling pathway.

Accumulating evidence has shown the potential of bergamottin as an anticancer agent. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the anticancer affects of bergamottin (μM) against colon cancer cells. ⋯ Taken together, bergamottin suppresses the proliferation of colon cancer cells and may be utilised in the development of chemotherapy for colon cancer.

Inflammation is associated with the development and progression of ischemic stroke. In this study, we tested the diagnostic ability of procalcitonin (PCT) to C-reactive protein (CRP) ratio (PC ratio; ×10-6) to predict 90-day mortality in ischemic stroke patients. ⋯ Procalcitonin to C-reactive protein ratio was found to be positively associated with 90-day mortality in ischemic stroke patients. Our findings indicate that PC ratio may be a useful marker for predicting mortality after ischemic stroke. Further prospective studies are required to investigate and validate the use of PC ratio in clinical practice.

Osteoblasts and osteoclasts are cells of osteoblastic origin, and are vital in homeostasis of the skeleton. miRs are important for functioning, survival and differentiation of osteoclasts. It has been reported previously that miR-23b-3p is involved in osteoporosis and in regulation of differentiation of osteoblasts. It is also involved in the process of bone formation. However, the role of miR-23b-3p in differentiation of osteoclasts remains unexplored. ⋯ The results suggest that miR-23b-3p regulates the differentiation of osteoclasts by targeting PTEN through the PI3K/AKT cascade.

The aim of this study was to perform a comparative and economic analysis of the degree of development of anxiety-depressive disorder in patients with different types of extrasystolic arrhythmia using different assessment scales. ⋯ The study showed that for supraventricular extrasystoles, these factors determine the overall health of the patient. The differences between the three groups are significant on all scales of depression and anxiety (p ≤ 0.05). The most susceptible to depression and anxiety are patients with extrasystolic arrhythmias diagnosed with CHD, as well as MCD.
