The 25-item National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire (NEI VFQ-25) was designed to measure the vision-related quality of life (QoL). We aimed to assess the effect of disease duration, disease type (i.e., acute vs. chronic and unilateral vs. bilateral), and selected sociodemographic data on the QoL of patients with central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC). ⋯ Patients with CSC do not assess their QoL in negative terms, which may be related to the fact that the disease presents with transient symptoms. However, the QoL deteriorated with longer disease duration. Men with CSC have better vision-related QoL than women.

Various neurological complications may occur as a consequence of arterial ischemic stroke (AIS) and have an impact on daily activity of the patients, costs of their medical care and rehabilitation. The aim of this study was to analyze risk factors, stroke symptoms and post-stroke consequences in Polish pediatric patients depending on stroke subtype. ⋯ The presence and number of neurological outcomes depend on stroke subtypes. A relation between the presence of post-stroke deficits and age at onset was observed. The odds of deficit after ischemic stroke decreases by an average of 10.6% if the child is 1 year older at the time of AIS.

This study aimed to explore the biological functions of AKAP12 in lung adenocarcinoma and investigate the interaction between AKAP12 and miR-338-3p. ⋯ AKAP12 acts as a tumor promoter in lung adenocarcinoma development. Upregulation of MiR-338-3p could suppress AKAP12 expression in lung cancer cells and contribute to a better prognosis.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have gained increased attention due to the discovery of their roles in cancer-related processes. LncRNA PTCSC3 has been shown to have tumour-suppressive effects in thyroid cancer and glioblastoma. This study investigated the role of lncRNA PTSC3 in human oral cancer. ⋯ Overall, the evidence suggests that lncRNA PTCSC3 acts as a tumour suppressor in human oral cancer and suppresses oral cancer proliferation via induction of apoptosis and autophagy.

Paraphenylenediamine and related chemicals as allergens responsible for allergic contact dermatitis.
Paraphenylenediamine (PPDA) is a chemical with strong sensitizing properties used for dyeing of hair and textiles. Paraphenylenediamine can cross-react, resulting in allergy to other related compounds. The prevalence of PPDA sensitization varies widely. The objectives were to assess the frequency of positive patch test reactions to PPDA and related chemicals among patients with allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) and to analyze them regarding their clinical pattern, occupation and cross-reactions. ⋯ Paraphenylenediamine was a major cause of contact allergy of diverse clinical picture more often affecting women, especially with atopy. Every fifth PPDA-allergic person exhibited hypersensitivity to other related compounds. Strong reactions to PPDA increased the risk of cross-reactions.
