The incidence of hepatitis E virus (HEV) infections in Poland is largely unknown. This study aimed to describe seroprevalence of markers of HEV infection among patients with immunodeficiency of diverse etiology and patients with advanced chronic liver diseases. ⋯ In this large cohort a high seroprevalence of anti-HEV-IgG was detected in comparison to other European countries, with the highest rates in patients with alcoholic liver disease and in transplant recipients.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), a class of regulatory RNA molecules, are over 200 nucleotides long and could be used as a new potential biomarker, but their detection methods such as qRT-PCR are still not validated, and the influence of RNA degradation on lncRNA quantification is not clear. In this study, commercially available cDNA synthesis kits were tested and the influence of RNA degradation was compared. ⋯ cDNA synthesis kits with random hexamer primers preceded by polyA-tailing and adaptor-anchoring steps allows enhancement of lncRNA quantification specificity and sensitivity. In most cases degradation of RNA samples does not affect lncRNA quantification because these molecules have good stability.

In this study, we aimed to distinguish differences in the procedural complication rate in a group of patients undergoing percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) of the left main coronary artery (LMCA) between patients with isolated LMCA disease and multi-vessel disease (MVD) with LMCA involvement and to identify their predictors. ⋯ The MVD involvement in patients treated with PCI of the LMCA may play a protective role. Patients with isolated LMCA involvement undergoing PCI should be subjected to special care and protected by various methods, such as devices to support left ventricle function.

Urinary incontinence in the general population occurs in 7% of non-pregnant women under 39 years old, 17% of those 40 to 59 years old, and 23-32% of those over 60 years old. In athletes the prevalence is higher, especially in high-impact training and gravity sports. Pelvic floor muscles (PFM) have two important roles; they serve as the support for abdominal organs and are crucial for closure of the urethra, vagina and rectum. ⋯ Pelvic floor sonography is discussed as the only objective method for pelvic floor examination among sportswomen and a tool which should be used routinely by urophysiotherapists and urogynecologists. A multidisciplinary individualized approach to stress urinary incontinence among athletes is presented including: physiotherapy, diagnostic imaging, use of a pessary, tampons, pharmacologic and surgical treatment. We present guidelines for stress urinary incontinence treatment in sportswomen of different age.

This study investigated the best mode for the application of nimotuzumab (Nimo) in combination with chemoradiotherapy to treat nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). ⋯ Nimo administered with chemoradiotherapy is effective for NPC. Nimo concurrent with IC followed by CCRT could be the optimal mode of sequential treatment.
