Chorioamnionitis is one of the most important maternal complications in the expectant management of patients with preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM). Procalcitonin (proCT), the precursor of the hormone calcitonin, is used to differentiate bacterial infections from non-bacterial ones. The objective of the study was to determine the efficacy of maternal serum procalcitonin levels in the early prediction of chorioamnionitis in women with PPROM. ⋯ Maternal proCT was not found to be predictive of chorioamnionitis. However, since there are reports in the literature that contradict these results, further studies are warranted to determine the true efficacy of proCT in the prediction of clinical chorioamnionitis.

Ultrasound-guided thrombin injection (UGTI) is the preferred treatment of pseudoaneurysms (psA). The potential risk of complications increases with the number of UGTI treatments needed for complete psA obliteration. Identification of risk factors for recurrent psA is needed. ⋯ The LEVI and time interval between artery cannulation and UGTI treatment are strong parameters identifying patients at risk of psA recurrence. The psA volume and communicating channel length are less substantial risks, but still significant. Concomitant antiplatelet and anticoagulant therapy do not affect the success rate of UGTI.

The aim was to evaluate patients' perception of function and physical and mental dimensions of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with end-stage knee or hip osteoarthritis (OA) immediately prior to surgery and to identify the factors associated with the outcomes. ⋯ Many investigated factors were associated with poor self-reported function and HRQoL in knee and hip OA. However, the most important factors for both knee and hip OA were catastrophizing and flexion ROM.

With the implementation of the universal two-child policy, the number of pregnant women of advanced maternal age (AMA) will increase steadily. We aimed to investigate whether the effect of gestational weight gain on insulin resistance (IR) before delivery was mediated by serum adipokine concentrations in AMA. ⋯ Taken together, our findings suggest that the relationship between WG during the third trimester and IR was mediated by serum leptin concentrations in AMA, but not serum adiponectin concentrations.

Postoperative peritoneal adhesion is an important complication of abdominopelvic surgery. The aim of this study is to reveal the effect of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on postoperative intraperitoneal inflammation and adhesions. ⋯ Platelet-rich plasma has a reducing effect on the postoperative peritoneal adhesions with separation of the damaged tissues, affecting the inflammation, matrix metalloproteinase, plasminogen activation or the other stages of adhesion formation.
